Broken Bridges.
The story line is really good, but I think being a Toby Keith fan helped in that one

First run movies that (but will wait for $1 movie release) I didn't but the new ones that people are raving about are "Epic", "Smokin Aces", "Dream Girls" and "Night at The Museum" as "must see" movies on the big screen.
Know what you mean; we wait until it hit the $1 movie a few weeks to a month or so after is it released, or comes out on DVD to rent a movie as we are bargain shoppers too.
Although popular, I would not recommend the following:
"Wicker Man" (original one was better and the ending depressing...the good guy is sacrificed BECAUSE of his virtues and good soul...very depressing!)
Clerks 2 (had beastiality simulation...just plain sick and I am even a Kevin Smith fan, but not sure after seeing that movie!),
Borat (I took my teen son and his friend to a showing...they laughed but I am scarred for after seeing two naked guys, one hairy, one ginourmous rolling and running around a hotel in this mockumentary).
We rent a lot of movies and the better ones I can recommend are:
"Brick" (lower budget and sound quality in a few patches make it hard to follow, but very good overall and a good twist of an ending).
"Inside Man" with Denzel Washington, Clive Owen and Jodie Foster...very well acted, paced and great plot twists!
'Snakes on a Plane" with Samuel L. Jackson and Julianna Margolese (was on E.R. awhile back). R rated (nude female breasts and profanity). Sounds lame from the title but was a surprisingly good movie over all.
"I am David", won award at Film festivals but never made it to many theaters. I rented it on a lark and was amazed as I thought it sounded sort of lame from the description and just picked it up as a filler for our 2 for $1 section from our local video store. Has the fella that played Jesus Christ in "The Passion of the Christ" in it, but it is the young boy and his performance of a boy named David that rivets you to the screen from beginning to end.
Ok...now for kids movies. I don't like a lot of the new stuff (but I liked the Tim Allen version of Shaggy Dog too), but can recommend the following based on the kids age:
Teens:
Sky High
Goonies
Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Movie (1st one only!)
Big Fat Liar
Agent Cody Banks 1 & 2
Dunstan Checks In
Can't Buy Me Love
Better Off Dead
Pre-teens:
"Free Willy" movies
Air Bud movies (the first 3, not the later ones!)
"Beethoven" movies (2nd one again, the best)
Paulie (a parrot tells the story about his life and journey about a little girl who loved him and trying to find her again)
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (2nd one is the best)
Younger Kids under 9:
Babe
Gordy
Homeward Bound 1 & 2 (story of 2 dogs and a cat and their adventure
Toy Story 1 & 2
Ice Age (the first one only...did not care for the 2nd one!)
Monsters, Inc. (only if over the age of 5...if younger, may give them nightmares)

Saw "Smokin' Aces". It was really good even though the critics are giving it a bad review.
Edit: Why did I get 2 thumbs downs for saying I saw a movie? I thought that's what the question asked!! Sorry!

"The Illusionist" was good so I gave the first gal a thumbs up for that one...you're welcome.
Also watched "The Wicker Man"...it was okay, wierd, but okay.
"GridIron Gang" was awesome...good flick...but has some bad language if you have young kids.
"The Wild" was a good one to watch with the kids and we also watched "Nacho Libre". It was okay, a good story, but not the greatest. "School of Rock" however was AWESOME if you like Jack Black.
