I'd say about 50/50. I married my opposite the first time (5 years), it didn't work. I needed someone more like me as far as strength of mind. I was impulsive and strong willed, I never wanted to stay in one place very long and I was extremely passionate (overly). He was ready to settle down, become parents right off, stay-at-home in the evenings, didn't drink and I think he put a whole new meaning into "missionary" love-making (like no movement at all). My second husband (20 years) was more like my father, he took control over every aspect of my life. He liked to keep busy, both of us enjoyed any and every thing fast. But where I settled down into family life raising the 2 girls and become responsible and mature...he wanted to keep on partying and keeping up with the fast crowd. Years of alcohol and other women were his downfall and I just walked away. Today I am engaged to a wonderful man, 4 years now, and we share a lot in common, we both like the same type of movies, food, people, activities on our free time, we work side by side on projects and because we came out of the same kind of marriage (his wife drank and cheated on him, like my Ex did) we are closer and more understanding towards each other.

Coz then you get a little bit of everything! My husband and I are total opposites but that is what makes the marriage so much fun. It's unpredictable and you can never tell what is going to happen next! So in answer to your question - no, it isn't just you but I think a lot of people will identify with you. I know I do!

OPPOSITES ATTRACT. Just one of the most famous sayings out there.

Why marry someone just like you ? It would get boring after awhile with nothing fresh or new. If you are with someone who is just like you, there is also competition within the life over trivial things. These trivial things will cause problems down the road.

It's true. People want to find something other than themselves to spend the rest of their life with. Something exciting that will keep them alive. Don't try even if you think it'll work. Only 1/4 of those marriages keep.

It would be quite boring to marry someone like yourself. Someone who is opposite of you complements you and makes you whole.

Yeah, according to Paula Abdul. Usually what attracts us to another person is that they have a quality we admire which we ourselves don't have and vice versa. This is one way in which a good couple complements each other and works together.

Yes I think its true.. and its usually because they compliment each other. They literally become 'your other half'.

Because of the complementary nature.
