Do you agree with this observation. It seems that more and more of the young folks in urban and suburban areas lack the social basics of saying thank you and your welcome. It makes the issue more apparent when you spend your money at their place of business and they don't even have the curtesy to say thank you.

I completely agree. I think the powers that be should call them "Generation ME". I am a firm believer that the most inconsiderate populous in public places are teenagers. They are down right crude. Their parents should be ashamed! They don't respect themselves or others around them. :-(

I agree that younger folks seem to lack social graces and barely display social skills. It's sad, and I think the blame is that parents have to work so hard to make ends meet that they are simply too tired to teach their children basic skills.
The real tragedy, however, is that more and more I have noticed that older people seem to lack in both social graces and skills. I wish the pace of life could slow down and that families could be families again! Great question! Annie

Younger people don't have as much loyalty to their places of business as older generations. People nowadays are more aware that their positions may be cut if it affects the bottom line. Younger people tend to switch jobs more often because of this awareness. They do not lend loyalty to a company that's not loyal to them.

However, in many other situations, I do see what you're talking about. When kids are having kids, there's little time to teach social etiquette. But maybe us older people are holding on to things that aren't important. Maybe saying "thank you" is just something we value as old people, like "real" music or not wearing your pants below your underwear.

It comes from poor child rearing. Don't blame the student, look to the teachers if you want to hold someone accountable.

Let's remember that the young adults today come from the people of the 60's and 70's
