It goes both ways and when a link is provided, more times than not the left questions the creditability of that link while using a Michael Moore site or a left wing propaganda site to prove their point. The above answers is proof to that, "only when republicans" but it does not apply to statement including those comparing Bush to Hitler, 9/11 and other "propaganda".

Hold on. When someone posits as fact something that is sure to be controversial, I always request a link. And I always try to post a link when presenting facts myself.

Posting a link to a fact shows that one's arguments are based on truth and reality, not just spurious, unsupported claims.

I think it is imperative to show supporting evidence for any claim. This is the basis of serious, reasoned debate.

Actually, I try to post links when it seems warrented, no matter what the subject. I am a genealogist, and citing sources is important to verify the information you present. I believe that perhaps one reason that anyone may ask for links posts is to verify your information. Why should you do this? For one reason, to show that there really are viable links to what you are saying. For another, so that anyone who is reading your post can ascertain the reliability of your source. Finally, there is a chance your source is one that your reader has not seen before, and can read to find out more information.
