Afterlife Theories:
- Reincarnation: Your soul goes on to another body and you occupy that body until you die, and repeat the process until you understand the meaning of life.
- Energy: Your soul (or "energy") goes on to become part of a universal energy in which you can understand the full knowledge of mankind, as their energies have conglomerated into one as well. Also used to manipulate electronics.
- God: Your soul is the dust that has settled after God destroyed himself. Our lives and deaths contribute to the reconstruction of God as he was (see "God's Debris" by Scott Adams).
- Heaven/Hell/Purgatory: Judeo-Christian answer that if you are good, you go to heaven, if you are bad, you go to hell, and if you are neither, you stay in purgatory.
- Conscious: Once you have died, your soul belongs to a large conscious that is uncontrollable and all-knowing (Buddhist theory).
Hoped these helped you out. And really, if you have an extra hour or two, read "God's Debris" by Scott Adams, which can be found on his website (www.dilbert.com... yea, he's the Dilbert guy, but he's also a really profound philosopher).

Hi Rebecca,
Yes, if you believe in reincarnation, you do. I know you said that this is a spiritual questions, and not a scientific one. There are some scientific studies of this phenomenon, so it might actually be both. Take a look at these books and references and see what you believe:

Is it true or not? I honestly don't know, but I find the subject very, very interesting. And I can't see anything wrong with researching a subject. How can that be a threat to anyone? If someone is too afraid of and idea to even research it, I think there is something seriously wrong with that person's thinking. I hope you have fun looking into this interesting subject. Don't let anyone else tell you what to believe. You should make up your own mind!!!

According to Hindu mythology, if the soul hasnt attained moksha (salvation) then it pays the price(gets punishment for its bad deeds) & take a new birth. That birth can be of an animal or a human & this again depends on the merits of the previous births. If a person has been very good in his/her life then the soul of that person attains moksha. It is then that the chain of rebirth is broken.

The soul travels from life to life
until it is awakened through spiritual knowledge
And realizes it's unity with the supreme source of life.

My thoughts on this question are, does it really matter? In my conclusion the answer is - why care. I as in ME am my thoughts and memories right? I mean even if i come back as another person, or an animal, i wont have those thoughts and memories, i wont be the same thing. What is ME is the things i have done with my life, the people i have met, and the things my brain and body feel and remember. The rest doesn't matter if i'm not aware of it, is it really me? So in essence, my answer is no.

You're assuming that there is such a thing as the "soul". Why are you assuming that? What evidence do you have for its existence? As far as I know, my consciousness is a product of my brain. If my brain is affected by alcohol or drugs, so is my consciousness. Therefore I assume that when my brain dies, so does my consciousness. Do you have any reason to believe differently, other than wishful thinking?

Your soul returns to where it came from before
entering the body that it housed here on earth.
Some people are reincarnated to finish what they started (like Presidents Abraham Lincoln and Kennedy). Same soul, different bodies 300 years apart.

It goes to the same place it was before you were born.
By spiritual/philosophical do you mean things that just sound nice and have no basis in reality?

Your soul goes to the Creator. YOur body stays and you go into sleep until the judgement day when the Saviour comes and saves us all. The common misconception that everyone believes is that you go directly to heaven when you die but no.
