at least to some small degree. what is wrong with making sure every single citizen is guaranteed health care? look at canada, their health care is no worse than ours, and everybody is helped. there are millions of americans who cannot afford insurance or pay outrageous, capitalistic prices for medical care. those people have just as much innate right as wealthier people do. why cant our greedy nature take a back seat for a little while and allow our government to help those that need it? people are horrified that their taxes may go up a little, even though they would save that money on not having to pay insurance.

Neat concept, but it has never worked in Canada, many Canadians have to come down here for serious (timely) treatment, the wait for an appointment is months, and taxes go up a LOT (25% higher than US and the system still doesn't work. Canada health care is a train wreck. Solution? Ask why big high dollar churches don't have free walk in clinics staffed by volunteers? Doctors donate a few hours a week? Let the big hospitals take care of seriously ill. It is totally immoral to have to pay a $150 office call the get a $12 prescription for cough medicine. Get the bulk of profit on illness out of the pockets of insurance companies? One real solution is to get government and their failed programs out of our lives...

You made your first mistake when you stated that people have an "INATE RIGHT" to health care. This is not a right. If people are not willing to do what is necessary to stay alive then they have no right to live.

The two reasons people are against socialized health care are the concerns of cost and access.

Who will pay for a socialized system. Don't tell me the government will. Government can only TAKE, it can never give. My health insurance costs me more than $400 USD per month. There are those who want me to pay for someone else's too. No, thank you.

Have you ever been to an emergency room or free clinic lately? Have you tried to get a doctor's appointment lately. It's hard enough to get treatment when you are willing and able to pay. Think about what it will be like when everyone in the country is standing in line to be treated for the sniffles or tummy aches.

Well maybe its because in ALL socialized health care, wait times increase, choices decrease and it always costs more than the private healthcare system. The taxes you pay to cover it will be much more than any insurance company. The taxes won't reflect your own health either. Why should a healthy 30 year old pay the same amount as an unhealthy 30 year old. Big government programs always have tons of red tape and waste tons of money. Name on government program that is run as efficient as any large business.

While the insurance industry IS one of the least efficient( that's all insurance car/home/health/life) it is still run better than any government office.

you watch too much TV. universal health care has so many horrid problems i don't know where to begin. i suppose with saying that the solution is not more government control, the problem is government. the incessant need for our government to control everything we do knows no bounds. the problems our health care system has were created by the government. if the government would leave health care up to the free market, prices would fall and quality would increase. I'm not gonna try and break it down here, but if you really want to see the other side and be open to the idea that the federal government doesn't need to hold your hand on every issue then click the links and read this information.

The idea of social medicine is utterly revolting and the fact that every American needs does not mean that taxpayers should pay for it. "Everyone is helped" is a Marxist term designed to have more government in your life. How about the fact that many Americans do not want health care. The government does not need to screw up anymore programs especially on such a serious matter. "Allowing the government to help" is a democratic ploy designed to create victims and push our nation further in debt and that is the truth. The idea that America does not spend tax dollars on health care is ridiculous.

There ALREADY IS healthcare available to anyone in the USA who needs it. There are programs for the poor and for children to get low-cost and no-cost healthcare. Most of these are thru the individual states. There is also healthcare available to the uninsured. The problem is that many of the uninsured would rather pay for big screen tv's, cell phones, and vacations rather than healthcare.

For others, who truly fall through the cracks, for whom the choice is "do I pay for healthcare or gas & groceries," well you can thank scumbag lawyers like JOHN EDWARDS who defend frivolous and fraudulent lawsuits that make your preminums go up.

With all of that being said, to answer your question, no I do not support universal healthcare. I would have to work a second job just to pay my taxes while scumbag lawyers like JOHN EDWARDS stuff their wallets. I support investigating these fraudulent lawsuits by these ambulance-chasers, like, did I mention JOHN EDWARDS...what we need is Medical Liablity Reform. Medical liability reform would decrease healthcare costs, freeing up more money to make insurance more affordable. It would also increase access to healthcare, as fewer doctors would be forced out of the profession or away from high-risk specialties because of overwhelming malpractice insurance premiums.

Yes, I want to help the poor, but some of you "bleeding hearts" need to realize what's causing the problem.

We are a free market county. Look at how screwed up social security is, the VA Hospital Systems, Medicare, Medicaid, etc. The govt can't run the programs it already has in place, now you want to take everything and make it government run?

Man someone needs to pinch you to wake you up from this dream and put you back into reality. I challenge you to find me a government program that is not 1) wracked with fraud and 2) can provide efficient resolution to problems.

Until that can happen, I will get my health care from my for profit healthcare provider.

In most countries with socialized healthcare the tax rate is around 70%. If just about everything I make goes to the Government in taxes why should I even bother to work?
Also name me one program the Government has ever managed efficiently? You can't because there isn't one. It isn’t that I am against healthcare for everyone, I am against having the Government run said program because I have not seen one ounce of competency come out of Washington in my entire life.

Taxes wouldn't go up just a little. Taxes would increased several times over. Currently, 4.5 times the amount of money spent on national defense is spent of health care in the USA.
17% of the GNP is spent on health. That amounts to just under $6400 per year for every man, woman, and child in this country. That is a staggering amount of money.
