Auto POP3: Scanning message #1 has been on display in a popup for over an hour. Why is it necessary?

At the bottom of the message on OE, it said No virus found in this message. Checked by AVG Free edition. How can I get rid of that popup? Clicking on it or on the rotating icon near the clock doesn't get rid of it.

Somewhere in the scan process the AVG never got an end of file marker.

Shut the system down and restart - that will be the easiest way to clear the message
