I have a mini-rex rabbit..her name is Daphne and she is 2 and a half years old. She is shedding like crazy right now and I'm not sure why? I cant rmeember if she was shedding like this last year or not. She is perfectly happy and healthy and there has been no change in her or to her diet or anything. Does anyone else have a rabbit that sheds like crazy? (she also has no bald spots either so she isnt just loosing fur)

Mine does too. They alternate between "normal" shedding and really bad shedding. She's fine :)

If you are seeing a ton of fur in her cage (like piles of it) and she isn't spayed and hasn't been with a male rabbit, then she is going through a false pregnancy. She is pulling her fur out to make a nest for the babies she thinks she is having. This is normal, but you should have her spayed if she isn't already.

It could be due partly to her age or it could be due to fur mange. After a rabbit gets over 2 years old or so they tend to molt more heavily than they did when they were young. If you see little white flakes coming up with the fur she sheds, your rabbit probably has fur mange. Most rabbit breeders will give their rabbit a shot of ivomectin to take care of fur mange. Ivomectin is very good at treating against animal parasites.

I'm pretty sure it's shedding season, especially with all of this weird weather (or maybe it's just cali) but my flemish giant, Cosmo, is also shedding. Just keep an eye on how much water she drinks- it's a trick to tell if they hairballs.

it can be weather related, i wouldn't worry about it. i have rabbits that some seasons barely shed, and other seasons won't stop shedding. just make sure you don't see any dandruff like flakes since that can be a form of mange or known as walking danruff.
