this isn't a permanent solution, but you could try touching some metal object for a while to discharge the static before you touch someone or your switches.

Interesting... There are a few reasons. It gets worse when the air is dry as in winter and in cold weather. You would be absolutely normal if you go to a place near equator when it is moist all round the year. Dry air builds static elec....

Instead of getting worked up, look at the sources of your static build up:

Look for the following:
Do you have a good amount of body hair ? Try shaving up.
Do you prefer wearing synthetic clothing - try cotton clothes
Look at your foot wear - Are you using a non- conductive sole ? Try changing to a conductive sole ( special footwear ) or tie a metal wire on to your shoe sole - touching your feet.
Try hugging a metallic ( non painted) Column or something like that.

Be careful of painted / powder coated surfaces. As a car moves, the skin of the car is generating static charge. If you touch a car loaded with charge, and if you had an insulating shoe, you are carrying the charge. Care ful with cars, powder coated appliances - cloth dryers, washing machines..

Buy a metallic chain - connect one end to ground and pass it on our body.. you are charge free....

Static electricity happens more in a dry environment.
Get a humidifier.
Also, discharging the charge by holding a piece of metal (like a key) will prevent the shock from happening to a single point on your body.

Certain types of shoes have a tendency to generate static electricity. Try different shoes and see if that helps the problem.

Low humidity is also a major contributor. This is a problem during the winter when the temperature is very low. For your own home or apartment, you may wish to try a humidifier.

I have the same problem so this is what my fiance told me to do and it works. I really have a problem getting out of cars and shutting the door man it shocks the crap out of me also if i stick my hand in dish water you can see the electricity from my fingers to the water so here is what you do. Keep a dryer sheet in your pocket it really does stop the static electricity so try that and good luck. Iknow how bad it is not to be able to touch the one you love with out fear of electrocuting them please let me know if it works for you i really hope it does.

Try wearing shoes that are better conductors of electricity, not metal, but some types of plastic. Also, try to touch with a greater surface area, eg. your whole hand, rather than using a finger. Hope it helps.

Put your hands in Boiled water till you can't bear it and then sea...Thats cos when your hand get heated till a very high temperature it will loose all the positive ions and electrodes in it.Or you can do the opposite : Put your hands in Ice till it freezez cos that will also let all the negative electrodes in your hands chemically react with others and bond away...Dont say im stupid : Please try it and it will help you...If that doesnt work then contact some one who can help you..Just try what i said above cos im sure that it will make all the negative and positive ions in your hands exit ...
