Why do we generally place little value in public school K-12 grades TEACHING as a profession and give such low salaries in comparison to other jobs requiring a college degree of at least a Bachelors degree level, some teaching positions require a Masters...WHY? Without good teachers, NONE OF US would be qualified to have any responsible employment.

I AM sorry.
I have long said that teachers and policemen should receive higher compensation then the bottem feeding lawyers.
Teachers (the GOOD ones) are the future of this country..no the world.

I'm not sure why...maybe it's because the parents really could teach these simple grades. Parents find the only importance of elementary levels is to give them a break...kind of like a daycare. I know I was monetarily relieved to send my youngest for half a day, it put money into my pocket!

Plus, I have thousands of dollars added to my taxes just for education. We are all paying, it's the government who should be dishing out higher wages to you. Those who send their kids to private school REALLY pay through the nose, because of the high tuition PLUS they still have to pay their taxes for education even though their kids aren't even allowed a STITCH of public school help!

It's sad to say, but this is the view from where I stand.

Unfortunately, because it's been a traditionally female dominated profession, like librarianship and nursing. Low salaries and no respect. Sexism lives.
