A friend gave me a silk shirt I got mud splattered on it.The care tags have been cut out.I figure theres some one out there that can help me.

No! The washer will tear up your silk shirt. Silk is delicate. I suggest that you wash it by hand. Use a mild detergent and hang it to dry.

Some silk will be ruined if you throw it in the washer, but the newer silk products over the last 6 years are wash and wear, you can wash them, but don't put in the dryer. Without the tag it is hard to tell, but the new silk does look slightly different than the older no wash silk. Can you call your friend and ask them how they cleaned their silk?

Someone who makes silk scarves told me the best way to clean silk is to HAND WASH in SHAMPOO!
It's a delicate fabric, and it fades easily. Treat it gently.

if you do use the washer make sure it is cold water wash and hang dry, I would go one step further and get some special delicate laundry soap for it as well.
