I have watched a lot of his movies, "North by Northwest:, "Vertigo", "The Man Who Knew Too Much", "Rear window" to name a few. I one I liked the most is "north by northwest".

This is one of the best contributions by Cary Grant to any of his work with the director. Roger Thornhill is one of the best roles Mr. Grant played, during his long career. His chemistry with Eva Marie Saint is perfect. This young actress added class and elegance to the picture. James Mason and Martin Landau played villains convincingly. Jesse Royce Landis, Leo G. Carroll, and the rest of the supporting cast is excellent.

It is one of Alfred Hitchcock's best crafted films thanks to the brilliant people that came together to work in it.

It's got to be Psycho. There isn't a bad bit in the movie. It's creepy, the acting, writing and music are first class (one of the most memorable scores ever by Bernard Hermann)

Hitchcock did wonders on a tiny budget. He was 60 when he made the movie and the shower scene is one of the most famous in movie history.

No matter how many times you see Psycho, it's always scary and entertaining. Even when Gus Van Sant remade the movie shot-for-shot, he couldn't achieve what Hitchcock did the first time around. A true classic.

whats the name of that film where two men meet on a train and discuss killing their spouses?

Edit: its STRANGERS ON A TRAIN. One of the men is only joking but the other one is serious and he ends up killing the other mans spouse, and then expects the other man to fulfill his part of the bargain. I think thats a Hitchcock film isnt it. Thats my FAVE. Why? Cos the film fills me with dread. Imagine someone being so warped that they would actually kill an innocent person and would then persecute the other person and blackmail them into killing their own spouse. \The acting is brilliant and the stroyline is exceptional. The murderous man really comes over as psychotic. And I real feel for the other man.

I also love Psycho. The period in which we are discovering who is killing those women is enthralling. Why is his mother killing thses women. Is there some kind of oedipus complex going on here? Is the mother jealous?? And in the end it turns out that it is Norman all along, who is still haunted by the overbearing matriarch long after her death (he killed her). Again it is spectacularly filmed with avant garde camera techniques synonymous with Hitchcock movies. The music is dramatic (think of the famous shower scene) and supports the film perfectly.

Is Marnie a Hitchcock film too ? Wow i Love that film too. I love Sean Connery anyway. but I love how he peels away Marnie's shell piece by piece until he finally gets to discover her neurosis and reveals who the real Marnie is. Brilliant film.

It has to be Psycho. First of all it was shot in black & white film which was a major advantage for the film's marketing efforts, since by that time there wasn't a genre such as "slasher movies".
Second, it kind of tells the true story of Ed Gein, the original Psycho. And thirdly it is interesting psychologically speaking. It shows how a man attached to his mother, with no friends, or sexual experiences, can become a vicious being with psychosomatic disorders. More info on this can be found on Freud's "Three Essays on the Theory of Sexuality"

Rear Window - It was the first Alfred Hitchcock movie I had ever seen and I just fell in love with Jimmy Stewart and Grace Kelly. The plot and the characters were so rich and Grace Kelly was just absolutely beautiful. It was really neat how you got to be involved with everyone in the apartment complex and see into their lives thru Jimmy Stewarts character. It is still my favorite film of all time!

I am torn between Psycho and Rear Window. Psycho still holds up today, and the killing off of the lead in the first act is still stunning in it's audacity. Throws the audience off completely and leaves us unmoored.

Rear Window is the winner though. I can watch it over and over again. Actually I cannot turn it off if it is on. Technically, the shots, the sets, everything is orchestrated perfectly...the pacing is superb and you never know what is going to happen, the tension builds (even though you have sen this film dozens of times before). Just a perfectly executed film.

"North by Northwest". Cary Grant was awesome and the Mount Rushmore scene was really cool.

"The Trouble with Harry" was also excellent. Made me look at a leg of lamb in a whole new way.

"Rebecca"-you just HAD to feel for the girl!

"The Birds"-pretty silly movie and I hate the colorized version and they were really stupid in the movie but still creepy. Tippi Hedren was absolutely gorgeous in that film. Now she takes care of wild animals!

I loved Rear Window. It's just one of the coolest and most suspenseful movies I've ever seen! It was genius in it's simplicity, too. Today's horror movie makers need to watch old Hitchcock movies to see that they are far more intense than any of the slasher films that come out lately. And, on a girly note...let's not forget those amazing Edith Head costumes Grace Kelly wore. Gorgeous!

Wow- great answer!
Hitchcock made so many wonderful, thought-provoking films.
Some of my favorites are Vertigo, The Man Who Knew Too Much, North by Northwest and Rear Window.

My favorite film of his was "Rebecca". I watched it in 5th grade and found the film haunting yet lovely.

My favourite film by Hitchcock is 'Saboteur' (1942).
It's my favourite film because of the extensive location filming in New York, and the fight between the two 'saboteurs' (one is real, the other is suspected) on top of the Statue of Liberty.
