I haven't work in about 6mos. It is time for me to find work again. But not in my chosen field. I have to start out at the very bottom, like a teenager. I am really derpressed about this but I need to work. How do I get past feeling so horrible about it? I'm going to go to school, again, but I still have to work. I need advice or maybe a story on how you or someonelse got past it. I know I can't be the only one going through this.

You know Phoebe that when things happen in life i belive that they happen for a reason maybe to move me from one spot to another or that i need to be over there to be of assisstance to myself or to another. its like putting on a different pair of glasses instead of looking at it with the old pair look at it with the new pair the potential is endless and really quite exciting. its not easy starting over but by starting a new in a different field is good stuff. i think first id look at what would you really like to do. Try to take the money out of it. Sure you gotta live but if you like something you will seem to make the best of it . Hey i havnt worked for over 10 years because of me having 2 liver transplants. Id love to get back to work but cant. so iI do other things always moveing stright ahead and very grateful to be able to do what i can. Good luck Phoebe take care

You do not say why you are starting over again.

If you made a mistake and paid for it by going to jail for 6 months, do not lie about that when someone asks you about the time away from work.

If that is not the reason, take a look at USAJOBS. That is the site to find work for the Federal Government. There is a large percentage of civil servants that will be eligible for retirement in the next 5 years; someone will have to replace them. You can start there anytime, you just need ten years to get a small pension.

Take a look at the attached website. You have nothing to lose.
Good Luck!

No, you aren't alone.
As of Friday I was an engineer making 60k a year.
today, I am unemployed.....you know....i never really liked what I was doing anyway.....
I calculated that if i make 28k a year, I can pay for my house and car notes, and my other expenses....
I would like to get into mortgage selling, but they seem to want recent college grads, and I am 35.
I think I have a good shot at working answering phones because I speak three languages...I did that a long time ago.
I guess the best way to get through this, is to look at all the blessing you have, and realize you have a lot.
It doesnt sound like you are bearing the brunt of the economic load in your household, so that is at least one thing to be thankful for. Take your time, even if you find something that doesnt pay much,...if it is something you like, you can grow and progress though the industry.

Sometimes you do have to start at the bottom. But look at it as an opportunity. If you can show that you are good at your job, that may open up promotion opportunities quicker.

Also, many employers would rather hire someone that already has a job than someone who doesn't. That may sound kind of funny, but if you already have a job, it's a sign that you are employable and more likely to be a good worker.

Look at starting over as a stepping stone to getting back into the work force. An opportunity to show what you are really made of.

Please understand that

#1) Not everybody "at the top" is there because of their brains and ability and not everybody at the bottom is there because they are stupid and inept. Don't sell your self short and think that you are somehow less worthy than those who are "above"you.

#2) Depending the company you are in. Starting at the bottom exposes you to ALL of possible career paths that the company has to offer and puts YOU in a strong position to be hired into YOUR chosen career path.

#3) Be diligent at the job that you have and remember that opportunity is worth more than money.

Good luck

Hi There.

You need to post more information in your question i.e Your age, where you live? what experience you have. What type of work do you want to do? Try this and people will understand you a bit more.

Also, try and be more confident I am sure you will gain skills in your chosen area if you are dedicated and positive enough! :)

Tell yourself this, "By starting at the bottom, the only direction is up!" Also by knowing that just because you take a job doesn't mean you have to stay with that job if something better comes along.
