Heartburn is a burning or painful sensation in the chest behind the breastbone. It occurs when the acid in your stomach travels backward into your esophagus (acid reflux). Your throat can also become irritated when exposed to stomach acid over time. Other symptoms include a sour taste in the mouth, belching, coughing, and wheezing.

Heartburn can be mild and temporary, but can also be chronic .
Avoiding caffeine, chocolate, greasy or spicy foods, and alcoholic beverages can help prevent heartburn. Also avoid any foods that directly irritate your stomach including citrus juice, coffee, and tomato products. Losing weight if needed will also help control it because excess weight can cause food to back up into the esophagus. To help prevent heartburn, try eating smaller meals, avoid eating two to three hours before bedtime, and raise the head of your bed six inches.
From your description It appears that it's not heartburn. Definitely consult your doctor.

Heartburn is a burning sensation in your chest caused by eating bad foods. What you describe does not sound like heartburn at all and it should be checked by your doctor. Good luck to you...

For me it feels like a burning sensation, starting in my throat and working down into my chest. Also it feels kind of like acid or something. The sure fire way for me to tell if heartburn is about to start is burping after I eat. Not just regular burping, but the kind where you can taste what you just ate. I know that sounds gross, but it happens.
