As everyone has said, don't touch Fransico Liriano he underwent Tommy John surgery a few months back and won't be pitching AT ALL in the 2008 season. Lots of people keep saying they think he'll make it back, but I'm fairly sure these are people who don't understand how invasive Tommy John surgery is.

-------------------------------------------------------------

Position Players

Albert Pujols
-Dominates in every category except stolen bases and triples easily one of the first three picks in every fantasy draft. Realize he averages more home runs than strikeouts each season...f'n crazy!!

Alex Rodriguez
-Last year he put up great numbers and it was a down year. He's a five-tool threat and adds some speed. He doesn't have to swipe as many bags in NY, but he'll still get you some freebies that you normally don't get from power hitters.

Jose Reyes
-Reyes doesn't offer the power and RBI numbers that A-Rod and Pujols do, but he brings a whole different dynamic to the game. He is a modern day Rickey Henderson. He gets extra-base hits like crazy (especially triples), he has a solid average, he steals bags left and right and he has enough power (roughly 20 HRs/year) to make him a must have....and he is only getting better!!

Pitchers

Johan Santana
-He's the best pitcher in baseball right now and there isn't anyone who will try to argue that point. Barring unforseen circumstances he's a lock for about 16 wins, 200+ Ks and an ERA under 3.00...hard to argue with any of that.

Roy Halladay
-He's easily a very close number two to Johan on any list of the best pitchers in the game. If Halladay can stay healthy all season long he's a definite Cy Young threat every year.

Carlos Zambrano
-He is big and powerful on the mound and that equates to strikeouts in bunches and plenty of wins. He has an improved offense behind him to put some extra runs on the board, so it's hard not to expect him to put up at least 16-20 wins with high Ks and a nice ERA to boot.

I hope that helps.

First of all, Liriano is probably out for the entire season recovering from injury. Do you mean Santana?

I second your notion regarding Howard, though I think 98% out there will say Pujols. The reason I'm down on Pujols is the rest of the Cardinals lineup is so weak. Edmonds is a shell of his former self and that's before considering shoulder and toe injuries that could flare up and sideline him. Encarnacion is marginal anyway but also has a wrist ailment that could be problematic. I'm not sold on Rolen's ability to stay healthy throughout the course of the season, but he is certainly the closest thing they've got to a second slugger. I'm not sold on Chris Duncan; not to mention you've got to sit him against lefties. I also think with the Cardinals' extremely weak starting rotation there will be struggles and frustrations on the team.

While the Phillies' lineup will not knock anyone's socks off there is much more to work with in protecting Howard. Utley is a legit star, Wes Helms has 20 to 25 HR power if given the ABs; Pat Burrell is much maligned but no matter what his batting average and strikeouts, he draws a lot of walks and has the potential to hit 30 to 35 HRs. Jimmy Rollins, Aaron Rowand, and Shane Victorino are are solid bats that can rack up doubles like crazy in addition to having 15 to 20 HR potential. And two of the Phillies many catching possibilities - Ruiz, Coste, and Barajas (though I don't like him) should be able to combine for 15 to 20 HRs as well (I would be surprised if they retain Rule 5 pick Ryan Budde; and they certainly won't unless they dump at least one of the guys mentioned above before opening day. Don't forget they've got Jason Jaramillo waiting in the wings).

Liriano will be out until the 2008 season...

So personally I would go w/Santana, then Zambrano, and next Oswalt (dont draft Matsuzaka until later rounds because we do not know how he will perform in the US).

I think that if Pujols wasn't injured last year, he probably would have been the MVP. Even though Howard had an incredible year, I would still go w/Pujols as my #1.

This is who is at the top of my list for each position...

C - Mauer
1B - Pujols
2B - Utley
3B - Wright
SS - Reyes
OF - Guerrero, Suzuki, and Holliday
DH - Howard

UTIL - Morneau (I just had to put him on here, GO TWINS!!!)

With Liriano you are lost, because he´s out of the season.

My number ones are: Santana as a pitcher. Then Mariano Rivera.
Batting: A-rod, then Pujols.

#1 for pitchers is definitly Johan Santana for the fact that your gaurunteed 200+ K's, no more than a 3.50 ERA, and at least 16 wins every season. For batters/fielders its hands down Alfonso Soriano because if you look at his stats from last season in RFK let me say it again RFK! they were spectacular...... now that he is in Wrigley and has even more talet around him to get on base and what not he will have a HUGE year..... You can count on him winning the MVP this season.

Pujols or Howard, you can't go wrong with either one.

I would pick Johan Santana first for pitchers. Watch out for Chien-ming Wang, he led the majors with 19 wins last year for the Yankees, he could go pretty high this year.

Don't draft Liriano. He's not scheduled to throw off a mound until October.

I'd take Johan Santana and Albert Pujols

I'd rank them:
Pujols
A-Rod
Santana
Howard
