As with all things, there are trade-offs. I recently read that when the dogsledders in Greenland switched to snowmobiles they put themselves at the mercy of Arabic oil embargoes. However, my guess is that they still come out way ahead vs. the costs of raising and keeping the dogs.

How we use scarce resources (i.e. economics) has always been a driving force in human life. Loving has nothing to do with it. The reason you don't have to spend most of your day hunting and gathering for food is because some of our distant ancestors figured there had to be a better way to meet their caloric needs - so agriculture was born.
