What are the differences between AMD Athlon 64 x2 Dual Core processor 3800+ and Intel Core 2 Duo processor E6400 (2.13GHz)?

Which is better and why?

Quite alot, I'm usually a fan of AMD products but Intel's current Core 2 Duo processors wipe the floor with everything in terms of both performance and energy consumption beating all Pentium 4, Pentium D and AMD Athlon 64 X2 models while being well priced.

Check out some serious reviews such as the one above, they've totally changed the way they've designed the processor... since last summer there really aren't any other models worth considering.

How are they both x86 when he specifically stated AMD Athlon 64?? That would make it x64.

Personally, I would prefer the AMD over Intel in that case. But, that's just my personal preference. Intel Core2 Duo currently outperforms anything AMD to be equivalent. Intel has the performance/benchmark lead at the moment. Though, we've seen the tables turn overnight before.

But, with the new quad cores soon to come, who knows. The AMD quads will be backwards-compatible with socket AM2, so this will save a lot of people some upgrade costs when the time comes.

The Intel Core 2 Duo is way better.

It has a 4 lane data bus, 2MB of shared cache, it's built on a smaller process hence it runs cooler. It's just a way newer architecture, this is why it's better.

The principal difference is the Brand name and the price. The AMD processors are cheaper than the market-share-leader Intel. Who is better?, you find a lot of people tell Intel is better, but I read a lot of computer magazines (for years) and generally in the benchmark test, AMD got better result.

Intel has a longer track record for making CPUs and seem to be more compatible. AMD CPUs are supposedly faster if you are buying the equivalent vs an Intel.

A few years back, my friend and I bought our PCs, and he bought the AMD while I bought the Intel. His CPU indeed seemed to be faster in the benchmarks we did, but he also occasionally would get unexplained hangs or blue screen of deaths.

Not saying it was the CPU because there were other components (motherboard, graphics card, memory) that were different. But needless to say I was happy with my purchase while he changed to a new one in about 18 months.

SAME? they're both dual core.. duo or dual are the same.

well i like intel processors, it's popular.. i dont think AMD is as much popular as intel..

They are both x86 ISA processors, but Intel designed the specification so they know it better. AMD just tries to copy it. You can get AMDs cheaper because they trim some of the fat of x86, but I've always seen Intels perform better.

I don't really understand how Intel 'junks up your ram', they both access memory in an identical way...

i would get the athlon because it runs cooler and doesnt junk up your ram as much but all they are is 2 different brands of processors
