I am currently studying web design and have just got a part time job as an assistant in an Estate Agents because i am interested in property, i haven't got much more to do until im a qualified web designer but now im thinking should i do it on the side and put my efforts into being an Estate agent, any advice from people in either trade would be appreciated or any advice at all, which is a better job to do, thanks

Hey,
Being myself in Computing Field, i'd say you better put efforts on Estate Agent work. Reasons,
1) You get commissions on regularly basis + Fixed Pay
2) Its only YOU who will make yourself stop earning commissions, the more you put effort .. the more goodies you will recieve...

As in being web Designer,
1) Only Fixed PAy (no Bonuses or Commissions at all)
2) Doesnt matter how much you effort for a project, the pay will remain same

You can always do projects as freelance worker from Home, like 2-3 hrs daily if you want.

All the best for what you choose!!!

even estate agents need web designers... their sites are really boring... and its easy enough to do a virtual walkthru these days... ( im a photographer and do advertising)

almost every web designer has their favourite styles and feel, theyerr clunky, buggy and slow to load.. i pity poor folks still on dial up...

at the end of the day, the more work you do, the better your name gets known, the more work you attract.

any idiot armed with publisher or adobe can create a website, what makes them stand out is the creativity behind it.

use original images and learn to make montages... bit liek the scene in blade runner where dekkerd is scanning a room..zoom in, pull back enhance.. and all you need are good quality originals...

mix n match go for the real estate and do a bit of web design in your spare time, that way you can see what you really want and still have money coming in to pay the bills

Yes I agree you would be of benefit to any estate agency with the many strings to your bow and you could do your own consultancy stuff on the side or at home for other company's that my wish to use your web services. You can have your cake and eat it its just striking the balance.

if you have the time and energy, you can do both.
as an agent and web designer you can do your own
web design rather than hiring someone else.
you don't have to choose, you can do both.
you can design sites for real estate people etc.
