depends if you want large muscles
high weight/low reps
long lean muscles
low weight/high reps
usually 5-10 pounds, you want to feel a warm burn within the muscle you are working,
3-5 sets of 8 are good for starters and you can increase you sets as you go or increase you weight, just listen to your body, and go with what feels right, work out this area no more than every other day to allow rest and repair between sessions.

I lift weights 2-3 times a week, when I do bicep curls I use 15lb weights, 3 sets of about 10 reps......on the alternate day that I lift weights (like 2 days later) I use a lighter weight, say about 10 lbs and I do many more reps for each set, like 20 reps.
Does this help??

I've just completed pulmonry re-hab and I only used 0.5 kg and 1kg weights (each arm), I only do a few curls on each arm as I am only aiming to maintain strength and not build muscles.

I would do between 6-12 each arm depending how much other arm work I've already exercised.
