They are 'celebrities' only because of public exposure and the outrageous amount of money they make due to modern communication.
Looking at their exploits, most are very common and anything but admirable.
There are a few exceptions (very few!)!

I would say no. I'm a gen-Xer, so I'm not sure that current celebrities are really aimed at my generation. We're the over-educated, under-paid, slackers that are generally uncomfortable with any type of influence apart from that of our peers. Anyway, celebrities of any age are usually terrible role models since the "reality" they live in is so removed from the common person.

I don't see many ways to connect myself with celebrity culture, so I can't imagine that I would be successful trying to emulate that life. Don't get me wrong, I do think highly of some people with celebrity status, but I'm not going to look to anyone on the tv or big screen for help coping with my life. That's dangerous and doomed to failure if attempted. It's okay to just be a "regular" person. Besides, all you hear about these days are arrests and drug use...I can get that from my local paper...

i say no, but they are role models just as celebrities always have been (good or bad). What bugs The S*H*I*T out of me is when they get into politics. I was reading a question about President Bush. All of these young kids hate him and want to protest the war because that is what Sean Penn and George Clooney think and Susan Sarandan and Barbara , and the Dixie Chicks spew......... I just wonder when they took their political science courses and became the go to person for advice on the state of our country. Frankly, I'd rather leave it in the hands of the President and his advisors.

No and they never have been. I mean, if you want to be a baseball player, then it's okay to have, say, Derek Jeter as a role model for that becasue you like how he plays the game. I don't, though, believe celebrities should be role models for how to live your life. Parents should be that kind of role model.

No. And they shouldn't be. Just because they are in the public eye, I don't buy the opinion that they have to act a certain way. They didn't ask for the press to follow their every move and record it.

The only exception: They should be appropriate role models in the area of their fame, i.e. actors for acting, athletes for athletics, etc....
