Yes. Here in the United States, members of Congress vote to give themselves pay raises, which is simply ridiculous. Extremely high pay for politicians is a wide open invitation for corruption, and those drawn to serve their nation's people should do so out of a willingness to make things better, not a willingness to live in a large estate and drive seven or eight sports cars.

I think certain political figures are extremely overpaid. It has gotten to the point that elected officials do not represent the people whatsoever-they're out for special interest groups that will line their pockets with money for votes.

Pretty sad.

I know our elected officials here in NC are a bunch of backwater overstuffed and overpaid old timers who need to leave office for better ideas.

Absolutely. They should be required to live on the wages they set for the rest of us.

If the median salary is say $40,000 a year (off the top of my head...don't know off hand what it is) then that's what they should live on too.

Maybe THEN they will realize what the true American people are going through.

They are so far removed from the "common" people (as Hillary likes to call us) that they have no idea what is going on.

EDIT TO ADD:

They are SUPPOSED to be public servants working to better the country. This is not a position that is supposed to be about how much they can make. If they want to make millions then they can take their greed into the civilian sector!

I'm not getting what I paid for certainly...

They are very overpaid, and do virtually nothing in return.

Abso-f***ing-lutely!

And OUR TAXES go to pay for their obscene salaries. Also their health insurance, retirement plans, and security guards.

This wouldn't be so bad, except that most politicians come from a wealthy, privileged background in the first place and could damn well afford to pay their own way in life.

If they are to be paid for what they do that is right & good then they are over paid.

But not to worry about them. With the ear marks for their friends & their friends looking out for them they take enough of our money.

Yes, well wouldn't you be if you could vote for your own wages and benefits.

Yes. They started giving them raises to keep them honest, and it just made them greedier.

i think they are severly underpaid.
they should make as much as CEOs
if we want the best talent, the job should pay well.
it's a big job with lots of responsibility.
if it doesn't pay well you are looking at only
people who are willing to sacrifice income to do public service.
low paying jobs typically don't attract the best people.
i favor increasing political pay.

Remember you get what you pay for! If you pay peanuts you get monkeys.
