Depends on the situation, BUT, in general
Competition. Competition implies 'survival of the fittest'. Not in a strict darwin sense, but in that the best competitior will rise to the top. Competition drives innovation by requiring everyone to try to do it better, faster, cleaner, stronger, cheaper. Competition drives not only the leader to success, but those who are trying to keep up. Competition drives efficency, expediency etc. How successful would the free market system be without competition? Not so much probably.
With employees, both are good, team work and health competition.

I prefer cooperative competition or competitive cooperation. Let's face it, the work place is competitive as is the world. It seems that world economies are built on an expectation of competition. The US just recently invested a tremendous amount of time and money in the Super Bowl, an event intended to be an ultimate display of competition. But hundreds of thousands of people cooperated to make that event happen. I cooperate with my colleagues daily to help keep my company competitive, but there are some with whom I compete for various reasons. My students cooperate with each on some projects, but might be otherwise competitive for a final project or grade. I believe there are good and compelling reasons and needs for both competition and cooperation. Ironically, there is such a thing as too much cooperation. And clearly too much competition could be a bad thing, even in a sports event. The difficulty is in managing the balance of competition and cooperation in a specific context.

I do not want discount the merit of competition, while emphasising the value of cooperation. Competition without any negative impact on the players involved will in fact result in better performance and more efficiency. The Market driven economy model, is based on the theory of competition. Although cooperative model, is a painless one with the involvement of all concerned without any bickering from any quarters, it is likely to slide into a listless effort and might slow down the progress.

Cooperation, because 1 + 1 = more than 2 in a team task. Synergy effect can be produced through cooperation. A greater job can be acheived through cooperation than compete with each other.
AirAsia Malaysia, for example can cooperate with Tiger Air of Singapore to attract worldwide tourists to South East Asia (SEA) by sharing their airport platform. Most of the foreign tourists especially from Europe will visit at least two country in SEA when they fly here.
Currently, both budget airlines are compete with each other. AirAsia cannot go in Singapore Changi Airport and Tiger Air cannot come to KLIA / Low Cost Carrier Terminal (LCCT). Finally, toursists become the sufferers.
With cooperation mindset, we are able to share a bigger cake.
With competition mindset, we both suffer.
TEAM = Together Everyone Acheive More.

It depends on what we are competiting or cooperating with. Ex. I will cooperate with you if you are my boss, but I will not cooperate to committ a crime. I prefer competition, because I usually win.

I prefer cooperation, because competition creates violence, and criticism with the young and the old.

Cooperation.
Competition is nothing but harnessing the power of meanness and spite. Competition is the desire to hurt others, just manifesting in a socially acceptable way.
It should be socially un-acceptable.
