My baby is now 5 months and I still havent had a period. Is it because I am breastfeeding?

Breastfeeding doesn't garauntee that you wont get your period back. It all depends on your body and how exculsively you are breastfeeding.
I can honestly tell you that I didn't get my period back and then 6mo after having my 2nd baby I was pregnant again. So obviously I got pregnant again on my first ovulation cycle after having my baby.
It all depends on your body.
You can look into ecologocal breastfeeding. It's system that can prevent conception naturally with breastfeeding but you have to really follow the guidelines.

I breastfed my two kids both until they were a year and I got my period right away - I think I was about 1 or 2 months post partum. I was so disapointed!! It really is different for every woman though, but breastfeeding definitley is supposed to delay it. I know women who haven't gotten their period back for the whole time they were breastfeeding, while others comes back immediatley. Be careful though - you can still concieve even if your period hasn;'t returned.

Yes, breastfeeding can delay your period. Some women dont get one at all the entire time they're nursing, and others get it within a few months after birth, even though they exclusivly nurse. I'm 11 weeks post partum and havent had mine yet...but with my son I had already had 2 periods by this time...both of my kids are exclusivly nursed. So it just varies for everyone.

Oh and you can ovulate monthly and not have a period while nursing, so if your not ready for another baby be careful! LOL

Probably when you least expect it! No... it varies (around 3-8 months after you quit breastfeeding). But remember... YOU CAN STILL GET PREGNANT even though you are not having a period!! Use protection if you aren't ready for another one!

It has to do with breastfeeding, my sister has a 3 month old and she is experiencing the same thing. Call your Doctor if you are concerned about it and remember you can still get pregnant so take precaution there unless you want another newbie. Otherwise enjoy the freedom.

Yes. Breastfeeding could delay your period for up to a year +. This does not mean you won't get pregnant if you have unprotected sex though. The hormone your body produces to produces milk effects you having your period.

You are unlikely to get your period as long as your baby is breastfeeding as his or her primary or exclusive foodsource and you have not nightweaned. You can still be breastfeeding when you get your periods back, but it definitly delays them.

(Think I had a nice year long vacation... so nice....)

Consider yourself lucky! but know that the "when" it will happen ..only your body knows. It is very personal.Varies from one individual to another. I have a friend that is breastfeeding for 8 months now and she just got her first period. And don't believe the myth that if you are nursing you won't get pregnant. That is not accurate either.Your body has its own clock.Never compare it with others.Enjoy this days without it!

Yes, it's because you are breastfeeding. The time varies, but usually within the first year it will return. I got my first one around 8 months.(Count your blessings)and enjoy it

Yes, some lucky people do not have periods at all when they arer breast feeding (I did tho unfortunately!)
However, it doesn't mean you cannot get pregnant so you will still need to use protection unless you intend to add to your family immediatley.
Congratulations on your baby!
