If you are concerned abou thte baby's heart condition and the OB is fully aware of your concerns, then you have every right to at least get a straight answer from him about what the plan is as far as making sure the baby will be taken care of once its born. I know it can be intimidating to talk with people, especially doctors who are so busy and know so much.

But you are the mom here and have a right to know the plan of care for your child. Pregnant women are known for being bitchy and I think now is the time for the inner ***** to make an appearance, call the office, insist on being put through to the nurse (DO NOT LEAVE A MESSAGE WITH THE RECEPTIONIST). If you get through detail exactly your concerns. the baby has sever heart problems that wil require immediate surgery, you have been contraction with out making progress for several days. You want to know what the specific plan is.

Then, do not get off the phone until you are satisfied with the answers. THis guy is making big bucks off of you and your insurance company, its okay to deman some customer service and even more okay to want to make sure the baby will be taken care of, if that means a schedualed delivery so the surgical team can be primed and ready, then thats what it means

I'm surprised that your pediatrician isn't already planning a C-section since the baby is considered "high risk" with a heart condition. You are your best advocate for the baby...and need to be proactive about your care. I would call the pediatrician's office and ask to meet with him/her as soon as possible for a consult about your concerns. Here are a few things I would ask:
1) What are your plans for the baby immediatly following the birth? Who will be there to address the heart condition?

2) Suppose I go into labor in the middle of the night and there are complications... is there a surgeon available "in house" since the baby is "high risk" ?

3) I'm worried about the stress on the baby by continued contractions, how long will you let me go before inducing?

Also, You are in charge...Not the doctor! Tell him/her that you'd feel more comfortable inducing if that's what you really want to do! Good Luck!!

I had the same issue 7 weeks ago, but I was 37 weeks with huge baby. YOu are defffinatly far enough along to be induced plus with baby health conditions I would deffinatly call the doc (so sorry to hear about that) whats the harm in asking if they say no oh well, but im sure they will not give you a problem. I was 36 weeks when I started having contractions went to hospital was 4 cm and 80% effaced sent home and went back at 37 weeks at 5cm and 100% effaced water never broke and contractions were tiny, I had to have my water broke and had to be induced. I would advise you to tell your doc that you are done, get that baby out of you and make sure it is healthy and safe, Plus they understand how much pain and unconfortable you are. TALK TO THEM.. You are past full term, most doc's will induce at 38 if asked to. GOOD LUCK Call them now, get your little bundle of joy out of there saftley.

Please listen to your docs. If your baby has a heart condition it's possible that the drugs to induce would add some stress to the baby's heart. I say that because once they add the pitocin to your IV drip, the contractions get much stronger and they watch the baby monitor very closely. Natural labor contractions simply don't stress the baby as much.

You should definitely calm down, for one. I've actually always heard that inducing hurts worse than allowing it to happen naturally. You have to let thing progress naturally. If the baby isn't ready nothing you do will "help". Just try to relax or take a nap.

As a massage therapist there are two areas that we are trained not to go near when we do pregnancy massage, simply because they are water areas and could cause induced labor. The spots are the web of your hand between your thumb and pointer finger, and your ankles. Believe it or not, it often works. Good luck.

He must think that you will go sooner than later. Perhaps with your childs heart condition he or she would not handle the severity of induction. Your doctor I'm sure knows what is best. Try resting alittle because you are going to need it.
Good luck

If your baby has a heart condition you should avoid induction if possible. Induction really stresses a baby, and mom.

Don't worry a surgical team will be ready for you when you go into labour.

If you are dialted, 2 cm, then I would ask your doctor to sweep you membranes, he will know what I mean. It will speed this up for you. I was like you and in labour for 2 weeks, but it was to slow, so my doctor did that and i was in there that night. You have to be 2 cm before they can do it. It worth a try. Congrats and I hope everythign goes well for you and baby!!
