Why do the Canadians always feel that they have an advantage over hockey, not one of your teams are even in the top three in the eastern divison, someone said they would get pissed if an american team won the stanley cup again, why are you pissed because it shows america is just as good at hockey if not better..hmmmm this should cause a good argument. Im not trying to be an A**, im just saying, its stupid, its a fun sport, love it for the sport, get over yourselves.

Keep in mind that i'm a tried and true hockey fan. i grew up watching the colorado rockies turn into the new jersey devils. i go way back. what you have to remember is that hockey is Canada's sport (technically it's lacrosse, but you get my meaning). we have GOOD hockey fans... they have GREAT hockey fans. they didn't lose their teams cuz of lack of people wanting to go. they lost their teams cuz of the horrible economy that canada had (thank you once again, quebec, the avs still love you). if john elway were to get traded the fans of denver would've freaked and the rest of the league would be shocked, but they'd get over it in a week or two. when patrick roy was traded traded to the avalanche EVERY television in the ENTIRE PROVIDENCE of quebec switched it's programming to capture the plane taking off for denver. that is how big hockey is in canada. can they come across a little crass? sure... it's no different than any football fan... raider nation being the top of my list. horrible team... awesome fans... -Z-

I know a lot of Hockey players, and the reasoning that they gave me is this:
I another country had a better baseball team (which is typically an American sport), would the Americans get mad because they won the world series??? That is why Canadians don't like having an "American Based team" win the cup.

I really don't understand the logic either.

I agree with you - I'm Canadian, but it annoys me when my fellow Canadians talk about how the Stanley Cup "belongs" in Canada, and that it's so horrible when an American team dares to defeat one from our country. Who cares what city the Cup resides in? Like you said, I just watch the game because I love the sport, and I don't care if Carolina has the Cup instead of Edmonton.

We also don't have much of a right at this point to claim that we're the kings of hockey. Sweden has that distinction right now, given the outcome of the Olympics and World Championship last season. I think we have the most depth of any hockey country, but we're not ruling the roost.

So what you're saying is the teams are "American" because they are based in the USA even though the majority of the players on the team are Canadian.
Now that the NHL has a salary cap a small market team like Calgary has as much chance as a large market USA team so the days of the big rich USA teams buying championships are gone. Look at the Yankees and Red Sox for examples of this in baseball.
The reason many Canadians feel we are the best hockey players in the world is for International championships and not for teams based in another country(but stacked with Canadians).

It's not that we feel we have an adavantage it's just that we are passionate about and wanting our canadian teams to do well. also, just as an fyi, the majoity of players on U.S. based teams are Canadian so it's not that america is good it's partly the canadians making u.s. teams good (as well as europeans and u.s players but the majority are canadian).

But I do agree that we should just love the great game and support all the hockey teams in the nhl.

As a Canadian I could give a crap about Canadian-based teams bar my hometown one--the Nux. The only idiot Cdn fans who cheer for ALL CDn teams are not real fans. Believe me, no self-respecting Lames fan will cheer for the Oil. Ditto Sens and Make Beliefs fans.

Juts ignore these morons. There is a certain, mostly casual and ignorant, fan base that cheers for whatever Canadian team is left in the Stanley Cup playoffs. We are all not like this. Believe me, the last thing real Nux fans wanted the past two Finals was the Lames or the smug Oilers fans gloating over a Cup.

We don't have an advantage in hockey. Only 20% of the league is made of up Canadian teams and Bettman doesn't seem to enthused about increasing that number. We already lost Quebec and Winnipeg. We were losing Edmonton and Calgary until they both had great cup runs. We want our teams to do well so they don't get moved. I don't care that Carolina and Tampa won the cup. Staal, Stillman, Brind'amour, Wade, Lecavalier, St. Louis and Richards represented us Canadians well.

Being from America I can slightly understand what you are saying. I've talked to a lot of people from Canada either at games or online, and a lot of them seem very full of themselves. Like they know everything about hockey and treat me like I know nothing because I'm not Canadian.

With that being said, I've also talked to many Canadians that were great to talk to. They seemed to just generally love the game, and seemed really interested in talking to me about it.

I think in hockey just like everything else in the world, you will always have some people that just dont want to share what they consider to be "theirs". I agree with you that it is a shame that some people are like that. All I can say is try to associate yourself with the kind people that truly do just love the game no matter where they are from.
