I've worked myself down from a pack and a half a day to 2-3 cigarettes, but I just can't seem to give those up. Should I just go cold turkey from here? At this point, would the patch help? Any suggestions would be helpful.

No patch... you're so close already that the patch won't do any good.

Start each day staying busy... getting ready for the day, breakfast, etc. If you get a craving, drink a glass of water. Throughout the day, anytime you feel it, get up and walk for five minutes with your water in your hand. The moving and fluid will become a new habit, and get your mind off the cigarette.

If you want, make an appointment with one cigarette a day. If it's at noon or after dinner or just before bed, do it. Tell yourself that you have time later... and honor it. By denying it you're cheating yourself, and you'll be upset later.

Do that for a week... and then stop. Do the water/walk thing at your "appointment time." It will become a new habit (and better for your health).

Once you've stopped, maintain the habits... walking, drinking water, etc. If you want, buy some low-calorie ice cream bars and have one of those instead of your daily cig. Or call a friend when you get a craving. Just do your best to work through the craving and then go on.

Best of luck... you're doing something great for you, your friends and your family.

2-3 cigarettes a day?!?! You call that smoking?!

I say: Don't you worry unless you can't afford to buy them or you're afraid you can go back to a pack and a half a day!

If you can stay with only 2 or 3 cigarettes a day, you don't have to patch or burden yourself with the idea of having to quit smoking.

The Patch would be too much if your down to 2-3 cigarettes a day. I would just work my way down to 1 cigarette a day than after that I would try 1 cigarette ever other day until I smoke no cigarettes a day.

The patch probably would give you more nicotine than you're smoking right now. Cold turkey with a little help from a support group would probably do it for you.

I started smoking for a very stupid reason. when i was in college some guy was smoking next to me. Stupid me thought i would try one and that would be that. Boy was i wrong. i came home for Christmas and my dad warned me that i would get addicted. I just did not listen. I have smoked on and off for the past 9 years. My doc gave me a new drug called chantix. you keep smoking while you take the first pack of of the drug (i think its 10 days) and than you stop smoking, but keep taking the pills until you are ready to stop. My advice for those who smoke or are thinking about it. DONT even have one cig.. once you do you are hooked and for those who already do smoke. STOP. i know its easier said than done, but you will feel better, you will smell better and most of all..you will live lot longer.

Don't force yourself or you'll just give up. Patches and a firm support system will see you through.

These should offer you some help. Good luck, and believe me, there will be one day when you wake up and think I can't believe I used to be so dependant on cigarettes! Don't give up!

( The 7mg patch- the last step- will be fine to use until you feel you don't need them anymore)

If your down to 2-3 ciggerettes a day then just quit cold turkey, there is no reason you can't from here, throw out the ciggerettes you have and all the lighters and ashtrays and just be done with it.

The patch would definately help! If this doesn't help if you still wanna smoke ,cut your ciggs into 1/2 or 1/4 ,chewing gum also helps .At night pray to god and he'll definately help you with your problem even if everything fails.Don't give up you're doing great!!!!!!BEST OF LUCK, tell us how you're doing .I have full confidence that you'll be able to quit.

Downing the amount of cigarattes is not a good way as you are still smoking despite you decided to give up. You should be determined now and say: "This is my last cigaratte." Then tear your cigarattes apart no matter how many they are. Also there is a medical way -not very expensive also- called BIORESONANCE. It takes just one seance to give up smoking, and after 45 mins of a seance, you feel no stress, no ahce, no psychologic and physiologic pressure, it means you reborn withou cigarattes. Also, I advise you to do some sports. I am also going to use that bioresonance, have good luck!
