The French are very protective of their culture and are really concerned of the Anglo Saxon, English speaking world. They have even passed laws banning the playing of American inspired rock and roll on their radio stations. Obviously the stars of the 50's and 60's, who, with little talent, flourished under the De Gaulle inspired protectionism. Now they are of a certain age and the younger generation have only had these has beens as role models.
