murder, disease, death, natural disasters, famine, wars, miscarriages, homeless people, etc. if there is a God, why do these things even exist? Moreover, why does Satan even exist?

The existence of God is and always will be unknown to us humans, so it all comes down to a matter of faith (belief/opinion). The term agnostic literally means without knowledge and is by definition the only honest approach to God. Nevertheless, what is the harm in believing even if you admit that you don't know? I personally am agnostic, but that doesn't mean I am not open to the possibility of god's existence. The zealots will probably give me a thumbs down, but that doesn't make them correct, only self-deceptive. The atheists may also not like this answer, but the word means without belief in god and that isn't necessarily honest either unless it is first predicated by "I don't know, but I choose to disbelieve". So, What is wrong with being agnostic?
As for your question, Why would god have a hand in any of those natural disasters? Why do you believe that there is a Satan? It is all cultural conditioning to believe that events are related in terms of good and bad which are value judgments. I believe that any event can be seen as good or bad depending on the point of view of the observer. Certainly these events don't disprove god any more than they prove the existence of Satan. Lots to think about isn't it! Good Luck

Those things can be written off as either the effects of free will, sin, and/or Satan. (The Jewish version of Satan, by the way, isn't anything like the Christian version... they reject the concept of some sort of powerful evil being that rivals God. They say these things are the effects of free will, sin, and just the way the world was made.)

What concerns me the most is the Big Bang and evolution... as much as hardcore creationists would like to deny them, virtually all serious scientists agree that they occurred. (And scientists aren't involved in a massive left-wing conspiracy here.)

And if they did, why didn't the Bible say anything about it? And if God was all-powerful, why did He need to bother with evolution when he could have made it in 6 days?

The other problem is the sheer amount of ridiculousness, violence, and contradictions within the Bible. That shouldn't be present to such an extent in a work inspired by a good and just God.

Also: Any religion that can be believed on faith alone can just as easily be rejected on faith alone. There has to be something other than faith...

The question of God is something that faith can override.

Some people believe, some don't, some view God differently than others.

Some would say that bad things are a test from God, some would say things are a curse from Satan. Look at poor Job....God really stuck it to him in the Bible....Look at Moses, he served God and ended up not getting to stay with his people. God has a pretty nasty record of screwing some folks over. Why would things change in modern times?

Some might say that it's FAITH that exists, not God....

Either way, be it faith or feeling the conviction that something is or isn't there is what makes a person spiritually.

I personally believe that God is nature and nature is God...that God isn't a sentient being therefore cannot judge others like we would with a human mind. Thus, if God is nature, that means God is random and often chaotic because some laws of nature are just that way. I don't believe in Satan...heaven or hell..I believe those are just a state of mind within the confines of our organic human brain. I don't think God intervenes because God isn't a thinking creature or individual...God is within everything in the form of natural laws of physics, energy, growth, nature...EVERYTHING. I don't think God causes or prevents anything...the laws of nature just take over.

BUT to give you a simple answer to your question, God exists because mankind is afraid of being alone, especially after death. Satan exists because mankind has to have a patsy to blame for bad things that happen. Both (IMO) are fabrications of the human imagination due to human nature and the things we all do, weak or strong.

Go to www.bible.org discussion forums and address those whom are qualified to deal with your theological concerns. Mostly what you will get here (yahoo answers) are most often twisted points of views concerning the Old and New Testaments. You will get those opposed to the written word and those who believe it, but offer nothing more than "because its Gods word" type statements. Theological questions need theological answers. Even if you don't believe in it, you could at least receive an educated and thorough answer.

If there is not a God, why do you feel that there is a contradiction here? Without God, there is no objective good or evil.

People can act badly.
Nature happens.

That doesn't mean there isn't a God.

There is a god - this is hell and we have to be better and stronger through it all to get to heaven or wherever god resides.

God didn't create what we have been doing to ourselves. he exists to teach lessons no matter how hard they are--He cries too---
