Under any other circumstances, I would definitely recommend Twilight Princess (that is the one your talking about right, because you can download the first one and Link to the Past to your Wii now). But since you are not an avid gamer, I wouldn't think you would enjoy it, because the game is HUGE, and therefore would take a long time to finish! I would recommend a rental to see if it really interest you. Or, if your hubby is into it, let him buy it and try it there.
Or download Link to the Past and play that first. That is what got me into Zelda in the first place (and ever since, have not been able to go - just look at the list I provided!).

Currently, Twilight Princess (The Legend of Zelda) is the highest rated and most anticipated Wii game; it's worth it. The Zelda games have always been accessible and light on intensity, so even those people who are casual gamers can get into it and enjoy it.

My husband and I got the wii as well and it's been nothing but fun!
I myself haven't gotten to play the Zelda game yet but he says it's really great.
We have lots of fun with the Wii Sports and we have wireless internet on the Wii. So far I like it.
The only thing that bugs me is the remote that came with the system. The B button is way too sensitive. I think it's defective and i'll have to exchange it. The one I bought is a lot better.
And as i recall the only way you can "crack" your screen -besides throwing a remote at it- is if it's plasma. I've heard the motion thing will cause plasma tvs to mess up

"1]doomed your tv to a smashing
2]wasted a lot of cash
3]told nintnedo yes it's crap but people will buy it
4] threw your sex life down the drain
and [5] twlight princess is the only desent game for it"
1)Only if you're an idiot and don't know how to hold on to a remote, simple motor skills there.
2) You mean like the USD$800 it costs to get a PS3, as opposed to a $250 Wii?
3) You bought a Wii to tell Nintendo it's crap? Perhaps you've heard of a telephone or email? Crap in what way? It can't be all bad, if Bill Gates praises it, and Sony tries (fails) to copy one of its feature.
4) Can't argue with that. The thing is just so damn addictive.
5) Methinks TP is the ONLY game you've seen for it. Hell, Wii Sports is a ripper game, and it comes FREE with the console.

Zelda is a fun game but its only single player. if both of you are at home at the same times it might become a pain to play because you both might want to play at the same time. plus the factor of spoilers comes into play. if you get it i suggest playing together or playing at different times when the other isnt around so there is no drama.
if you want something you both will have fun with get a party game like rayman, super monkey ball, or wario ware...maybe even elebits. all those games have great replayability and are fun for everyone to get into, especially wario ware since it uses only one remote. trauma center is another addicting game but like zelda its single player and problems can ensue. i suggest going online to gamespot.com and looking at some games for yourself and deciding that way on what you want to get
