Sounds like you need to visit Trend Micro and run their on-line scan called Housecall. Very effective, stand alone scan that checks for and deletes anything dodgy.
The best bit is that (yes, it's free) it will detect malware, incl;uding viruses that normally have the ability to cancel or bypass your on-board virus protection (such as Nortons).
Highly recommend it, use it myself at least once a month, on top of Windows firewall, Norton AntiVirus (run all the time), Spybot & AdAware, which I run at least once a week. Both these last 2 are free to download and have regular updates.

try searching for free antivirus on the net. You can also find softwares on these urls:
http://www.softwareclub.ws
http://www.download.com
there are antivirus softwares here and I found may useful programs in these URL's but its best to search in Yahoo or Google. You can try using Grisoft's AVG antivirus. Just remember the word FREE and avoid the word TRIAL that makes the software a headache. Goodluck! ^_^

I use AVG FREE Edition 7.5 You can download it free at " Grisoft.com"
You will need to uninstall any anti virus program you now have in order for the download to work. Never run two anti virus programs on your PC, it will screw up things. This free edition does not have spyware protection, so you will need to have something to scan for spyware, like SpyBot Search & Destroy, which is free also. Look for it at " Ewido.net"
