It is the cheapest always on hand moisturizer. However you have to rub it in and not use it excessively. It actually makes a layer on your skin. You should not use it on your face though. It clogs your pores and doesn't allow your skin to breathe.

It seems all the people who are telling you what you don't want to hear are getting a thumbs down...so let me prepare myself for one...

Okay. Vaseline is petroleum jelly, basically grease. Anything that has a greasy base is not going to dry your skin out, if anything the grease will build up overtime and your skin or whatever area you are applying the vaseline to will either become greasy or not so dry, depending how dry the area was to begin with.

If you look at the container of vaseline, it says it's uses, just a few of them. Chapped lips, small cuts and raw skin (I believe). It doesn't say anything about "make sure not to use this too much because it will dry the area out". And even if it did do that, it would be either taken off the market, or a new and improved form of vaseline would be made. Neither of which have happened as far as I know.

Coming from personal experience, and I'll leave this up to you if you choose to believe it or not....When I had vaseline I always used it on my lips and it helped relieve chapped, dry lips. The next day I would never have a problem, I would never have overly dry lips. So where ever you heard that from is obviously not a reliable source. It's like the myth of eating lots and lots of Jello to make your hair and nails grow...It's just not true. Sure it tastes delicious but it's not doing anything to your hair or nails, and if you do see growth...it's most likely psychological.

As far as I'm concerned...the only reason some people are experiencing dryness from it is because of how they use it. Listen...if you want vaseline, or any kind of oil or moisturizer to work, it is only going to do it's best job if you apply it to damp skin. If you apply anything to dry skin, your skin is just soaking up the oil or lotion from the surface and it is not penetrating deep where it needs to go. Because vaseline repels water, what you need to do in order for it to work is make sure the area you are applying it to is damp. This way the vaseline seals in the moisture! It does not take a rocket scientist to figure out how to use a moisturizer and if it does...well then I feel bad for you, no offense.

WRONG. Whoever told you that is big time misinformed. Ive got a couple of tips for you, tho...

1. Slather it on legs and feet after immediately after bathing (in the evening) while skin is still hydrated from the warm water. Then designate a pair of light cotton socks and pj bottoms to sleep in afterwards. (I say designate because the vaseline gets into the fibers over time, even after washing.)

2. Use almond oil instead. It's lighter and you can apply it every time you bathe or during the day. Because its organic (from a nut rather than from petrolium,) it soaks right into the skin. --give it a few minutes before dressing. You'll love the silky, non sticky feeling.

I keep mine refrigerated. Being organic it has a short shelf life and will go rancid in a few weeks. Its not cheap, like vaseline, so I pour a small amount into a little travel squeeze bottle and keep it handy in the bathroom.

No, Vaseline helps your skin and soothes it so that it is nice and smooth and like your lips there are no cracks left. If your skin does start to dry out then use a bit more Vaseline because this means that you have not applied enough to help your skin feel soft.

Funny you should ask that. A couple of days ago my step daughter mentioned the same thing. Her cousin told her to put Vaseline on her dry lips,so she does this before bed, but now, every morning she wakes up with very dry sore lips and finds she cant stop using it or they get worse, so its a no win situation! Try bio oil instead, its great on your skin.

It won't dry out your skin but it's not exactly the best thing to use all time. Very pore clogging.

It is made of mineral oil. Mineral oil is a very very cheap ingredient that many companies use in their products. It is a petroleum product (what they make gasoline out of). It is actually very bad for your skin and makes you dependent on the product. It is also potentially a carcinogen. I haven't used any mineral oil products in about a year and my skin never feels dry anymore.
I would definitely never use Vaseline on your skin!
