i totally agree with you , i have been a victim of car crime and theft and the police can barely be able to answer the phone .
a man that lives near me has been plagued with burglars breaking into his buildings causing damage ,theft , starting fires ,then on the last occasion he heard them in one of his barns , called the police and was told we dont have the resources to send anyone so he said "ok ill shoot them " ( he simply said it out of frustration ) within 15 minutes 2 police cars and a van arrived and spent the whole night questioning him about his gun comment while the burglars were still thieving !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
they are quite simply a comedy police force that cost us a fortune with no return

How can you get value for money , when to police catch a criminal ,then the courts are told not to put people in prison unless they are really naughty. Just give the others a smacked wrist and let them go back to carry on as before. Did you know the first officer to an incident where there is a fatality, becomes the liaison officer to the victims family and is on call 24/7 for the duration of the investigation up to the end of criminal proceedings if there are any. Yes we do get value for money you are just looking at it with a very limited view point. We need more police officers and less bureaucracy.

As an officer...I'm compelled to respond!
Not all officers were "bullied" while growing up therefore to stereotype the profession is senseless.
As in ANY profession, there are good and bad apples. I pride myself as being an officer that attempts to provide the public with the best image possible so that others don't see the entire profession as some on this post have mentioned.
All it takes is for one bad situation by one to reflect poorly upon the entire profession.
To be told there is nothing the police can do....I would assume that little or no evidence was left at the scene therefore there were no suspects or witnesses to help solve your burglary. That is, indeed, unfortunate. Hopefully a crime prevention program such as "Neighborhood Watch" can be established in your area so that all are watching out for each other.
Sadly, when we need the police, we "cry foul" when we're not satisfied with their responses. The police are inundated with a workload that doesn't get any smaller due to the general publics desire to spend taxes elsewhere than to the public services. The profession is undermanned and underfunded as a whole.
I know this doesn't make you feel better, however, voice your concerns to your local government and get involved in improving your community.
Best wishes!

Last week there was a kids bike thrown over the wall into my bike yard. It looked new, had a lock on it, and had a bag on the back with a few bits and pieces including a pair of glasses. Very likely it had been stolen and dumped. It took ages to find a number for the local police station. Called, got an answerphone saying they would respond in 24hrs. Left a message. Heard nothing. Next day left another message. Heard nothing. Left another message. Still nothing. I'm left thinking what's the point in reporting this sort of if the police themselves aren't interested. And some poor kids never going to see his bike and stuff again.

I believe that the job of policing is a difficult one, and can be a very dangerous one. For that reason, I respect the position. Sadly, however, it seems that the kinds of people who are drawn to that line of work are the very ones that should not be allowed to wear the uniform. All the people that I know who became police officers 'when they grew up' were arrogant bullies as children and young men. I think that behavioural testing needs to be conducted thoroughly when putting a uniform like that on a person. We cannot put such power into the wrong hands....

Yes I believe there are conscientious people on the police force who are drastically under paid for the risk and what they give emotionally to the job.
Sure some may be attracted to the power/bully factor. Hopefully they are weeded out and don't advance. Every field has bad apples and they seem to get the attention. Try to look past them and appreciate the men and woman who give so much.

The majority of the police force are run by civilians now and are totally controlled by the Government. Their hands are tied to do a lot of things they want to do or feel is right. They are also very short staffed and have priorities and targets to meet. A lot of things are totally against their control, despite how it may look and what people may think. Lets just say that the Police force is not what it used to be.
