Computer will not boot from harddrive?

Question

Happened all at once, but had problems with computer date being reset to original bios date for several months prior. Downloaded Rocket time and right after that is when everything happened.
Computer will boot from CD, but will not boot hard drive. tried safe mode, but gets to a point in loading and then stops.
Bad Harddrive?? or Virus???

The problem with Bios date could be because the battery is drained. Try changing the battery to resolve.

The OS problem looks like your OS has been corrupted when you installed the third party software. The easiest thing you can do is to reinstall the OS. This will not affect any data stored on the computer unless you format it.

Once you get the OS booted you can do scandisk to check if the harddisk has nay issues.

May be bad hard drive, may be virus, may be bios problem. May even be a file deleted from the drive.

Symptom of clock resetting implies your bios battery has run out. Once this happens, every time you power off the computer forgets date / time ... and eventually forgets what hard disk type it has. If the bios autoseeks the disk drive type that might be OK, but if not it may have mis-found the hard disk type.

1) Check the BIOS settings for the disk drive.
2) If it's right then you've probably got a dud disk or a virus.
3) If it's a virus, get a standalone virus checker to check the disk.
4) Try booting the OS CD and repaiing the installed OS.

If you fix it... BUY A NEW BIOS BATTERY. It'll cost you a few bucks / quid and should be an easy pop-out/pop-in replacement.

It sounds as if your CMOS battery is bad.
Try replacing your CMOS battery. Then try booting the system in Safe mode (F8 key). If the hard drive boots then, you are probably okay.
Then reboot into Windows and run a virus scan.
You might have to re-install the XP opeating system, but it should not wipe out any data existing.

When we are switch off our computer it is using a backup battery for saving its Bios information's. Probably you lost your battery. You can change it on mother board. Then you can setup your Bios again with clicking Del on start up. Use auto detect for finding your hard disk. And change booting sequence from setup to bring Boot from Ide0 to first priority. This must to solve your problem.
