...and I just wanted to run some specs for those who know how Oblivion runs under certain settings. My budget gamer PC would have the following:
Windows XP 2nd Edition
768 RAM
ATI Athlon 64 3200+ 516 MB Cache
ATI Radeon X1650 Pro 256 MB Cache

I also need to buy a DVD ROM, but that's beside the point.

Also, for the overclockers out there, I have always heard negative things about overclocking, but I still want to toy with my AMD Athlon XP 1700 + because I am replacing it anyways. What is the life of your processor after you overclock? How long did it last? What would you suggest I try to overclock to with my old processor.

Thanks a bunch!

Hi, I bought a new pc (in parts, mind you) at Computercanada (a store in Toronto, Canada and maybe around the world. Anyway, you can buy the parts for your pc seperately from them (they have good prices) or you can buy your pc parts individually from online retailers that sell cheapest.

My pc cost me $1000 roughly Cdn.
3.06 GHz dual core
512 MB ddr ram (i put another gig in)
128 MB X700 Radeon
160 GB hd
1 Lg dvd hd
775 chipset PG5D1 motherboard
500 W power supply
Steel case (i thought it was black plastic first, imagine the surprise as i lifted it)
Sound Blaster Audigy Gold or seomthing sound card

i put in a $300 19" LCD monitor from LG with 700:1 and 1280x1024 max resolution.

anyway, oblivion runs well (not on all high). Id recommend buying a new 512 MB graphics card from ATI or NVidia or one of those uberexpensive 768MB or 1000 mb video cards, along with another gig of ram. My dual core processor handles anything i throw at it and can overclock itself to dual 4.5 GHz.

remember, keep your pc safe from online crap, get zonalarm pro suite and norton antivirus and you will be fine.

Also,
check out www.srtest.com

and run the test under Elder Scrolls 4 - Oblivion.

P.S. GREAT GAME but i cant keep one character for very long (i keep deleting them and trying another one) .... i dont have much patience :(

Forget about the XP 1700 too slow even if overclocked.

The CPU is good I have the same one, overclocked to 2750 Mhz.

You need to change the videocard.

I suggest the ATI X1950 Pro instead.
And you may want to put at least 1GB of RAM in there.

I play Oblivion with 1GB of RAM, and the game uses 700MB of it.

for the video games you reported i will throw this out. I even have l4d2 and that i'm basically working a three.0 h/t p4. 2 gig of 3200 and an ati 2600 professional (agp 8x). that's a drastically susceptible setup as a techniques issues bypass today so in case you're funds minded, the sky's the shrink. i could get a nil.5 respectable v-card. that's probable the reason i will do gaming like i do with the getting previous hardware. the setup reported sounds effective yet you need to reveal screen compatibility. something to else, I even have yet another gadget with a similar specs i discussed, different than the memory is 6400 and a nvidea 7600gs (pcie 16x). that's night and day, the ati is a lot greater desirable.
