I think if you live amongst a diverse selection of cultures you see many different things that influence happiness and sadness and rid yourself of the belief that your own culture has the answers

I think a few people have jumped to conclusions here or I have not been succinct enough, I actually meant living in other countries amongst other cultures,not just visiting.

Yes, but travelling is not the only situation that teaches you tolerance. There are a lot of circumstances that teach you tolerance like understanding why a person is cranky. Travel also teaches you respect for other people's culture. So, travel as much as you want, learn different cultures, adapt yourself and don't jet lag get the better of you.

Nope, merely good water hygiene procedure and safe sex.

People can travel the world and be closeted. A guy with a dozen country stamps on his passport could have stayed at teh same hotel chain, eaten at McDonalds every day and just followed the tour guide with his nose in the book, pausing to look up at the old buildings.

Experiencing the world is an attitide, and so is tolerance.

My own experience of travel has been very helpful. I generally travel on business and become involved with the people of the countries I visit. I always come away with the idea that we are all pretty much alike.

Usually, but not necessarily.

Darwin traveled a lot, and he was still a racist. But I guess things were different in that age.
