you should have an anti-virus installed in your computer and you can get a free AVG anti-virus version of it also you'll need a CCleaner which you can get it for free so you can clean your computer from all of those unnecessary files like the ones you've got in your temp directory after you visited an Internet. also you should have some kind of antispywares asoftware which will clean your computer from any spying programs that sits in your comp. and causes a lot of garbage to come your way.

AVG anti virus package definately. Its free and 100 times better than Norton anti virus.

I like using Free Ram Optimizer XP (I don't think you have to have Windows XP to use it, not sure..)

It lets you know much free RAM (memory) you got at any time, and if there's not much you can free some up. Very useful.
