Well, I am Deaf, read lips, speak english and sign language. There are times when having conversation with Hearing person...they get impatient when there are times I don't always get all what they say. Lots of times I have them telling me this "Its your problem if you don't get what I said in the first time!" And they won't repeat it. That makes me mad when they do that. I don't think it is fair for Deaf person had to pull all the works to make the conversation easier and I believe Hearing should at least try to help in.
Sometimes with a habit I pretend that I heard everything and respond with yes or no. Because it is embarrassing when you don't always get everything they say.

I am sorry...we live in a very selfish world these days...everyone is in such a hurry...If I were you...I would never pretend to understand when I didn't...ask until you do...if there are those that want to behave like a jerk...it is on them...if they get upset it is not a reflection of your shortcoming...but a reflection of their shortcoming...no need for you to be embarrassed...Obviously you have had to work very hard to interact in a hearing world...it seems as if you have mastered it well...you should be very proud of yourself...never embarrassed. When people like that reveal themselves....just pray for them...they are the ones that are truly handicapped...emotionally handicapped....Be Blessed.

Ignorance. They are too stupid to realize that it takes a bigger person to function in the world without all of your senses. I admire people that step up and overcome any challenge handed to them. I wish I knew sign language for the off chance that one day if I encounter a deaf person, I will NOT be as ignorant.

Some people are just not understanding. The fact that you can speak, read lips, and use sign language says that you are very understanding of the "hearing" world. My opinion is that people that get impatient, should really try to walk in your shoes, see how hard it is for you to understand us.

I give you total kudos!

I always thought that for one day everyone around you, around me, around anyone who has a disability, should have that disability. Just for one day, to see what it's like not to hear, or to be in a wheel chair, or to be blind. It's not easy living in a world where the majority is different.
My father along with other things, had to deal with being totally deaf, my brother inherited that from him. He has partial hearing and no hearing aide so people have to yell in his ear to talk to him, or he can't hear them at all. He spends a lot of time in the hospital because of other problems, and Hates it that the nurses and Drs act like he's stupid because he can't hear. I've seen it, and I can't believe how they behave, he's 50 years old and sane for petes sake! I tell them he not but they don't listen. So I can sympathize with you.
People just don't have patience for people who are different, But my suggestion to you is STAND YOUR GROUND! Don't let them push you down, if you do, you'll spend the rest of your life letting people push you down. Believe me that is no way to live. Make them repeat it as many times as necessary, worst comes to worst, make them write it down. Tell them you're not deaf on purpose and there's no reason for them to be rude. You're a good person who deserves respect! Good luck to you , I wish you the best .

I dunno beats the hell outta me.. but then i had a deaf GF once(deaf as a rock from birth).. I learned a little sign ( dont rem crap now) and we mostly used notepads and wrote.. easy enuff easyer than communication with some one from Russia or China lemme tell ya..

No biggy in my thoughts.. some people are just A**holes.. there are advantages in no hearing.. and I can actually see em.. (makes it easier to sleep with barking dogs or noisey neighbours. for a few examples.)

I even have grown up around those with "disabilities" my finished existence. (sorry in case you dont like that be conscious) and that i for my section think of its kinda humorous while people initiate speaking truly loud to deaf people. Its in comparison to you will pay attention them. haha. yet i do think of that folk attempt to articulate their words greater to cause them to less difficult to comprehend (in case you examine lips) and that would particularly circumstances make issues greater good for the receiver.
