you could use elastic, (tie off the end and seal with clear nail polish for extra support), wire or fishing line,
you could use a lobster, jump ring, barrel, or toggle if you use wire or fishing line.
i Prefer Fishing line, right now, i find the length of the desired necklace and cut the line 2 and 1/2 times that length.
here are a few web sites that you may want to visit
craftbits.com
allfreecraft.com
familyfun.go.com
freecraftz.com
craftown.com
Good luck and have fun creating your one of a kind pieces of wearable art.

I just started in this hobby - it's pretty fun. You need a few supplies to start.

Stringing wire (I like the nylon coated - comes in silver and gold tone)
Beads (of course!)
Crimping beads
Toggles or other necklace fasteners
Wire cutter
Crimping pliers

There are dozens of pliers to purchase for other beading, but those are the basics. I recommend taking a class at either a Michaels or an AC Moore, if they are in your area. They'll get you started!

firemountaingems.com has the best prices.

They also have lots of how-to information and examples and patterns. You don't have to have a resale/seller's permit to buy from them, unlike many bead companies.
