The NFL is not allowing any tailgating parties at the stadium before the super bowl. They say its for security reasons. Is this excuse (used to justify anything) getting lame or is it so that people will spend more money inside?

I'm not going to the game and don't get into tailgating - BUT...

They are allowed for regular home games.

Is this just another example of making more money off people in the name of security?

I believe they have legitimacy in claiming security reasons, but I whole heartedly believe it is really because (as it is with most things that claim "security" reasons) of $$$. As you said, they probably want you to spend money inside.

I totally agree that they have become the NoFunLeague. I hope soon in the future when the old guys who run it were the young people of today, they are not as strict and uptight.

However, I wouldn't think there'd be as many tailgaters anyway (atleast if it was "ticket-only" tailgaters) because it's so difficult to get tickets; with mainly big-wigs and other rich people getting them (which IMO is actually loosing money because I'm sure there's crazy fans that would dish out the $$ even if tickets were more expensive than they are now).

Drinking in public is illegal. Excessive drinking creates rowdiness. You already have an overexcited crowd of testosterone laden young men who want to get tanked beforehand? I'd say security is a valid concern. It has less to do with spending money inside than keeping unnecessary incidents to a minimum. Do you have tickets? Are you going to see the game or get crushed? You can get smashed afterward, either because your team lost or because it won. If you don't have tickets then this is academic.

Mainly because they are the "No Fun League" (NFL). Other than that I can't think of any good reason.
