What a neat idea! Back when my hubby and I were first dating he pulled up to the grocery and said, "I just need to run in real quick for something - wait here." The next thing I know he's at the car door with a dozen roses! My shocked response was "Oh no you didn't!" He didn't know if I was happy with it or not! lol - poor guy! He actually walked a different way through the parking lot so I wouldn't see him coming with the flowers. It was so thoughtful and unexpected!
When he proposed in front of the castle in Walt Disney World was pretty romantic too - but that's a whole other story! :-)
He's also left flowers on the bedside table so I'd find them at bedtime - that was sweet. He hides little "I love you" notes so that I'll find them when he's away on business.

I was able to get into her car that she finally cleaned, we went grocery shopping together and returned to her house that was illuminated by her apartment view of downtown, a few candles and her fireplace, she made a slammin salad with my favorite dressing and a small baked chicken breast with some nasty table wine (but the thought counted), we ended up drinnking the sparkling grape juice while toasting in two frosted glasses, etc. The night was ended early but I will never forget it. It was the basics and the fact that she spent time creating an atmosphere not buying it with traditional gifts.

I hate to be the one to break it to you, but he did not enjoy your arts-and-crafts project all that much. Really. He was a gentleman, and acted like he did rather than hurt your feelings.
One year I was flying home early in the morning from a business trip, on my birthday, but got called into the office so I couldn't go home and take the day off as planned. My wife of 17 years arranged to be in the limo waiting for me at the airport, naked under her coat, to give me a romantic birthday treat on the way to the office. She's the best.

When my now boyfriend and I met last year, Valentine's Day was the first "holiday" we had together. We still were in the phase of getting to know each other. BUT he took me to lunch at one of my favorite restaurants and bought me the cutest card and wrote a little something sweet in it and he bought me a bunch of sugar free candy. (I'm diabetic) It may not be the sweetest think anyone's ever heard of, but to me it was thoughtful and I've never had someone put thought in to a gift for me before.
A friend of mine's boyfriend went in her apartment and put hershey kisses all over the floor leading to her bed and put a note there that said "now that I've kissed the ground you walk on, will you be my Valentine" ....another sweet idea for you.

For me it would be when my guy decorated a winter tree with coloured lanterns with candles and heart shaped pink cards...we spent the rest of the night under that tree by having dinner(pizza) and making out later...

I think when someone washed my hair/ head massage for about 45 minutes while we were in the shower. It was dark and the candles were lit.
