Religious Right bothers me, and so does "_________ American" (insert African, Chinese, Asian, Mexican, or any other nationality that uses this phrase). If you're American, you're American. The end. This country is not about where you came from, it's about where you're going. Therapists teach you not to cling to painful pasts.... so why do we continue to do so in our basic descriptions of each other?

Brain storm is no longer accepted in case if offends people suffering from epilepsy. This bugs me because it seems to me to be fiddling round the edge of the problem without tackling the prejudice epilepsy sufferers experience on a daily basis. Too often, an employer will use the new term while refusing to hire the person.
Then you get the process of 'reclaiming' where an abusive word is taken over by the minority in question and is now to be used exclusively by them. Meanwhile a new word is used (usually words dealing with race and disability) which in due time is deemed offensive.
And what about 'Can you make yourself responsible for' instead of 'Will you'????
I also hate the mealy-mouthed 'partner', when you are trying to avoid saying cohabiting. Can't think of a substitute tho', cohabitee is a bit of a mouthful and as bad as partner.

Personally, I hate being called an African-American. I wasn't born in Africa. I've never been. I - fortunately or unfortunately - don't feel any close connection to the continent. So........I wonder why I'm labeled as such. I'm an American. Period.
Some of the other PC phrases I'm not fond of:
-Fire"person"
-Police"person"
-Partner {I REALLY hate that one. What's wrong w/ boyfriend or girlfriend??}
-Vertically challenged
-Happy Holidays {we can't say Merry Christmas anymore!?}

Last night I watched the Screen Actors Guild Awards and was puzzled as to why such categories as "Best Male Actor" and "Best Female Actor" exist.

In the training for the train company I work for, platform assistants are not to say "The next train is due in 6 mins" etc because the word due sounds too much like Jew...
Now that's PC gone mad!!!

The fact that they have seemed to drop the terms..actress and heroine, fireman, chairman etc.I will always use these names but I will never call any woman Ms.
I also hate 'partner'...they are either boyfriend/girlfriend or
fiance/fiancee or husband/wife.

Just about all. And all it does is to cause trouble further down the road with a backlash against it.
