I want to hook my cable modem into something(help to find out what) then hook two ethernet cables up, one to my pc, and another to my ps3. Is there something out there that I can use that will let me use only one at a time and be able to switch it back and forth without having to Unplug it and move it back and forth that way???

You won't be able to use one at a time but instead will be able to use both simultaneously (which might be a better solution).

It's called a router. You can get a wireless or a wired router. If you get a wireless router, it's not magic; you'll also need to get wireless cards for your PS3 and computer. Based on your question, you need a wired router. Something like this:

BTW, I have one that is working perfectly but I have no use for it anymore. Contact me if you want to purchase it... Real cheap.

If your cable modem uses ethernet to connect to your PC you need to connect the cable modem to a switch or hub... a router is probably overkill but would also work... and then connect the PC/ PS3 to the hub or switch. You may need to check that your cable modem will allocate IP addresses to both devices... but the easiest way may be to try it and see if both work.

If your cable modem connects by USB then your best bet may be Internet Connection Sharing from the PC to the PS/3... both will need to be running in order to use the PS/3 on the net. Windows ICS help is pretty good at explaining how you set it up for PCs...

your best bet is to buy a router. You can hook your computer to it through your ethernet cable. And a PS3 has a wireless modem in it. So it can pick up the router signal. All you have to do is read the book and go to network settings on your ps3 and it will tell you what to do from there
