Their organization (Association) protects them from it. However, if it is done purposely, then they will face some jail time. There was an incident in Mass when the doctor was performing surgery and he left to cash his check. That doctor faced jailed time and loss of his medical license. So, some doctors will face it if they purposely neglect their role.

there is a secret to alll this MONEY
there are alot of doctor who dont get enough pratice and the oberation can go wrong.
ok now to get in defth
for instance............. a man goes for an oberation and uuummmmm, he is getting a tumor removed from his brain, the doctors request for methadom or a sleeping numbing agent, for the doctor who know what they are doing nothing will go wrong, to a certain extent, NOW, to the fake doctors and to the ones who have little practice, will either remove the tumor and damage the brain cells will doing so which can lead to cronic seizers,
paraplegic, blindness, and many others. or the paitent is allergic to the anesthedic.
once the misstakes are through, doctors can deny and pay there way out of getting arreted, not to mention to hide there faults.
they will either pay the patients family, or take the heat.
now which one would you prefer if you are a doctor and making over 100,000 a year, hummmmmm, its your call

It's not easy to throw doctors into jail!!!
You see, this culprit-murderer doctor has a panel of medical team. If he mistreated a patient and die, the group of medical panel team will help him.
Remember, Dr. Yeo Seem Huat, the Pysci specialist in Mt. E.? His patient died! In the end, he has lots of medical friends to write report for him!
Many years ago, I remembered a SAF army medical doctor (M.O.) went for commando parachuting, the M.O. suffered a twisted angkle injury, in the end, his medical friends wrote report for him and downgraded the medicla doctor instantly!
It is not easy to throw a doctor into the jail for "killing" the patient! Very often doctor got professional friends and lecturers to sum up the medical report. Indirectly, saying that the fault is in the patient.
I knew a doctor in NUH, he was damn close to me. So he was telling me about all hidden and undisclosed stories. You never know!

Well, simple. Before any operation starts, the patient is made to sign a indemity form, if he is conscious, or his next of kin will have to sign it.
So in this way, the doc and his employer are protected. They will then have a better peace of mind to carry out their work without worrying of having their as* sued if something went terribly wrong.

Because the doctor didn't murder the patient. He operated, something went wrong, and the patient died.
maybe it was his time to go. Only God knows for sure!

If its a risky surgery with risk of death, they usually make you sign something incase of complications.
And if something does go wrong, in most cases the hospital will be blamed and not the doctor as he was just doing his job doing the best he could to save you.

They are medical practioners...and they are human. The law and their insurance companies help to protect them to a certain extent but if is easily proven that the death was truly negligent on the Drs. part then it could be looked into.

100,000 people die every year from surgery
almost 5,000 died last year from wrong doses of methadone
Drs can go to jail IF your lawyer can prove neglect on the Drs part
