Sorry it's a dumb blonde question but I just slid into a wall trying to get to work in the snow and had to walk home.

It's the rounded upper portion of the car body that protects the tire.....

The part of the body is called the fender. This is visible. The inner part that sheilds the engine from dirt and stuff flying from the tire is called the wheel well.

The "wing" or "1/4 panel", in the US I think its called a "fender"
