Actually, the correct answer is that in math those mean the exact same thing.

My guess is that you're either in Algebra II or Pre-Calculus. I've tutored both subjects recently.

If x varies directly as y, or if x is directly proportional to y, then

x = ky

direct proportional simply means that if you increase one unit at the question end the answer end would also increase in one unit. That is if 1 person has two hands then 10 persons would definetly have 20 hands whereas in the case of directly varies say there is 100 kilos of wheat ***** MY GOD I GOT YOUR QUESTION **** both are equal. Proportional--- they move together in the same direction
Varies--- They move together in the opposite direction
