a month ago my wife asked her boss for a week off to go on a biz trip with me. and she approved it. we got back saturday. and on monday her boss said come and get your stuff. Is this legal? Can I do anything? she works(ed) at a childcare place. my wife even tried calling her all weekend to find out how things were and she wouldnt answer the phone

This is going to depend on your state laws. Some states make it very easy for employers to fire people for any reason. You can contact a local labor attorney to determine what laws might be applicable to this particular situation.

An employer does not need a reason to fire an employee. She is within the legal parameters with dismissing your wife, even though your wife asked for the time off. It unfortunately gets filed under the category of "life sucks sometimes". I hope your wife finds a new and better job soon. Sorry to hear that she lost this one.

I am pretty sure you can be dismissed from a job for any reason as long as it is not violating the labor laws such as sex,race, religion etc. The former employer can't say anything negative about you such as she was a lousy worker, wasn't punctual etc. For the most part a potential employer can ask if they would hire her again with which the former emp. could say no or yes.
