'Kompressor' is German for Compressor. Rather than the air conditioner compressor, the word Kompressor that is fixated on Mercedes cars that uses a compressor. This is not for the air-con compressor, but the intake air compressing unit. However this is not to be mistaken for a turbo charger, which offers a similar function; both compress the intake air and force it into the engine. More air, more power.
However, the turbocharger is exhaust gas driven. Where as the compressor is engine driven (its driven by the crank itself). Therefore it is not as efficient as the turbocharger. But it offers a smoother power increase. There is no turbo lag; no huge power increase which sometimes tend to unsettle the car.
Hope it helped. Cheers!

All Mercs with the compressor label run on a similar engine for a particular class. The compressor is a supercharger that they have put on. The models then have various levels of boost. for example a c220 has higher boost than the c180. The engines of the two models are basically the same. What creates more power is the boost applied to the engine by the compressor and the fuel management.

When a Merc has "kompresser" on it the engine is supercharged. Its like a turbo but instead of a quick boost time and then turbo-lag when it runs out of boost, a supercharger runs constantly giving the engine an air supply which is constantly under pressure. Loads of power, no turbo-lag!

I assume you are talking about the air conditioner compressor....
The only other compressor I know of would be a small air compressor to change the suspension from soft to hard ride.
