beyond the fact that certain rights are tied to "marriage" it does not have much significance at all. The heterosexual people ruined it themselves a long time ago.
For some reason loving gay couples ruin marriage, whereas adultery and divorce are perfectly fine.

Marriage is only a contract between two or more people.
It has the same usefulness now as it always has.
The difference now is that the contracts are easily broken. in many nations.
It comes down to those involved in the contract if it is of any value or not.
Personaly I will never have such a contract.
