I have intentionally stayed away from sweet smelling candles (yankee candle makes things that smell like cakes, cookies, candly, etc.) because I worry that they will make me crave sweets. I must watch my calorie and sugar intake so it's hard enough to fight cravings without further enticement.

A friend told me that these scents actually curb cravings for sweets because they are "overpowering to the olfactory system".

Does anyone have any logic or experience related to this idea?

I've tried this. It just made me hungrier. Vanilla scent, in particular, made me want sugar cookies.

I did find that the peppermint scent soothed my cravings though, because it smells nice and it's relaxing to me. And I don't particularly care for peppermint as a food.

Yes, Vanilla scent can help curb sweet cravings apparently.

The article I read recommended putting a drop of vanilla essence on each wrist at the start of the day and then sniffing when you had a sugar craving! So I imagine a vanilla candle would do the same kind of thing...Good Luck!

l have heard that, but haven't tried it. Consider cravings to be your body's attempt to tell you it is not getting enough nutrition. If you greatly increase your nutrition, you usually greatly decrease cravings. Get more nutrient dense foods- like nutritional yeast, Fresh juiced carrots or beets. Hey, to be really healthy is worth a bit of work and expense!
