Hi,
The answer depends on who is asking. This is fequently a skill required for many jobs. In the job market communication skills define your ability to interact with other people where you work.
You may be asked to interact with someone that has deep business understanding or deep technical understanding and you'll need communication skills to understand them. You may be asked to interact directly with customers. When a customer asks a question, will you say "Yeah, uh what EVER"
Communication is done through verbal, visual and written means, so all of these are important.
If this IS a required skill listed in a job posting, make certain you have or can provide an example of your skills. You might be able to say - well here's how I communicated store policy with a difficult customer, or here's how provided a follow up email communication on this or that.
If this is in regards to college..... Communicating at college is a little different. Of course you communicate with your classmates, etc. For teachers learning 'what' a teacher expects of you and 'how' to provide that can be the difference between a A or B. Effective communication is usually the 'how' you write up a paper.
I hope that helps
God Bless

communication skills simply means the ability of a person to communicate with others. The skill denotes how best a person expresses himself in such a way that even a innocent and brainless fellow / dumb fellow or even a child is able to grasp the full meaning of what the person wants to convey. See even while you are writing notes they should be simple and best it means that one should use simple words ( not compound / bombastic ) and at the same time convey the whole message. Similarly while communicating which also means vocal ( i.e he is talking) he should not only talk but also use meaningful gestures with his hands and the eyes ( the way they look) so that whatever he wants to convey is 100% delivered to the person to whom it has been addressed. These communication skills are primarly required for teachers and politicians because it is through this only they would be able to either teach the students or simply convince the voters to vote for them. Hope you are satisfied by my answer which is once again simple and the best to my judgement. All the best.
